Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal from Village Farm Review

This Instant Oatmeal Made a Delicious Healthy Breakfast that Both My Son and I Enjoyed

I am happy to say that for a long time I ate what was healthiest for breakfast. Fruit was included each morning, whether it was some bananas, apples or berries in oatmeal, granola or a fruit smoothie. Once a week, I made pancakes and would have fruit on the side and every other day of the week usually consisted of homemade granola or oatmeal. Unfortunately, times have changed, and the amount of time that I can spend in the kitchen has dwindled considerably. I find myself having a hard time dedicating large amounts of time to breakfast, or any meal for that matter, but especially the first meal of the day. For this reason, I have been trying out a couple different things that are quick, easy and good for us. Recently, we turned to instant oatmeal. With the mornings becoming more and more chilly it seemed like a good idea. One of the instant oatmeal boxes that we recently got was Village Farm Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal.

When I saw this variety I knew it was one that we had to try. I use to put apples in my own homemade oatmeal and so this sounded really good to me. I wondered if the apples that were used in the Village Farm Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal were organic as well as the oats in the oatmeal. The ingredients were organic rolled oats, organic dehydrated can juice solids, organic dehydrated apples that are treated with ascorbic acid, citric acid and calcium chloride, organic cinnamon, natural flavor and sea salt. I was very, very pleased with these ingredients. The apples were treated so that they remained a nice color and didn't turn brown. I thought that it was great that everything was organic, including the cinnamon used and I couldn't wait to try out the oatmeal the next morning for breakfast. In the mean time I thought that I would look over the nutrition facts to see what kind of nutrition this instant oatmeal would have to offer us.

In a packet of Village Farm Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal there is one hundred and fifty calories with fifteen calories from fat. I wondered how high the sugars content was going to be because of sugar being the second ingredient listed. There were thirteen grams of sugars, which is a bit high but of course expected too, in the packet of instant oatmeal. However despite there being added sea salt there was only ninety milligrams of sodium listed. In addition the packet of instant oatmeal offered thirty grams of carbohydrates, four grams of protein and three grams of fiber. There was only one thing listed with anything in the minerals and vitamins section of the nutrition facts and that was iron, which was listed with six percent. Overall I thought that the nutrition facts looked pretty good and I looked forward to having some Village Farm Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal for breakfast.

Making the Village Farm Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal couldn't have been easier. When I woke up I got some water boiling and then opened a packet of the instant oatmeal and poured into a bowl. Once the water was rapidly boiling I pulled out a half of a cup measuring cup and got that amount of boiling water for the instant oatmeal. I chose this amount of water because the directions suggested using about one half of a cup to two-thirds of a cup. I went with the smaller amount because I didn't want the oatmeal to turn into soup. I poured the water in and let the oatmeal sit for a minute. Then I stirred it and discovered that it was the perfect texture, for me anyway. I took some oatmeal and added it to a smaller bowl for my son and then let the oatmeal cool off for the both of us. Once it was cool I took a couple bites and came to the conclusion of a couple of things.

The first thing that I realized was that the texture was so good that I didn't need to add any milk. The next thing that I noticed was that the Village Farm Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal tasted really, really good. I was amazed at just how good it was. Normally I find that instant oatmeal can have a processed taste to it but that wasn't the case with the this instant oatmeal. My son also enjoyed it a lot, he especially was fond of the little pieces of apples. Treating the apples really paid off because they looked beautiful and they tasted really good too. The next couple times that we made the oatmeal we experimented with the amount of water we used, using less and less so we could add milk without turning our oatmeal into soup. Each time the taste was just as good and the texture of the oatmeal was too. I couldn't be happier with how the oatmeal was turning out.

For as long as I need some extra help in the kitchen I know that I will be getting this oatmeal again. I also tried the Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal from this company but liked their apple cinnamon instant oatmeal much more. It wasn't very much, a box that contains eight packets of dry oatmeal is only two dollars and sixty-two cents. Honestly every morning we use two packets so the box goes pretty quickly for us. However I will say that it is cheap enough per box that I really don't mind. Each packet or bowl of oatmeal is only about thirty-three cents so if you just ate a bowl your breakfast would be very, very cheap. That is something that isn't always easy to say when you are eating organic foods. I would highly recommend to anyone to try the Village Farm Organic Apple Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal out.
