Fresh Kampo Organic Blackberries from Whole Foods
Whenever I go to Whole Foods, unless I already have a few blackberries in the refrigerator, at the least, I consider purchasing a 6-ounce clam shell of them. Recently, I picked up a container of Fresh Kampo Organic Blackberries, which come up from south of the border, Mexico. I plopped down $3.99 for 6 ounces of plump, juicy organic blackberries, in the dead of winter, in New York City.
Blackberries grow all over North America, and I can't say the organic blackberries from Mexico were any better or worse than the organic blackberries that grow farther north, in the U.S. They were just as plump, sweet and juicy. In a week or so, I'll buy them again just the same.
Blackberries Go Perfect with Yogurt
Blackberries are great by themselves, but are even better with creamy yogurt. The flavor, texture and pop of the juicy fruitlets-those individual pockets of juice that make up the whole blackberry-along with the creamy texture of the yogurt make for great complementary flavors and textures. There's nothing like the juicy, mouth-popping sensation you get when biting into a creamy yogurt-smothered blackberry. As a snack or dessert, an organic blackberry yogurt parfait is a better combination than every other fruit or berry and yogurt parfait concoction!
Organic Blackberries & Yogurt Parfait Recipe
Select a tall, slender glass, one in which you'll be able to spoon out the very last smidgen of blackberry-juiced yogurt.
Select an excellent, creamy organic yogurt. If you haven't already, try Traders Point Creamery Wildberry Organic Yogurt; it's the best yogurt I've ever had.
With pure water, gently wash a handful of organic blackberries.
Spoon a couple of dollops of yogurt into the glass, followed by a couple of blackberries, alternately continuing until you reach the to the top of the glass or your lips, whichever comes first. Let me know below in the comments section whether or not you agree: organic blackberries and yogurt go better together than any other fruit or berry and yogurt parfait, and that blackberries are the only berries to eat with yogurt!
