I rarely buy fresh broccoli. I love the taste and nutrition that you get from fresh broccoli but I often get frozen instead. Lately I have really been wanting to change this. As a result when I planned on making some stir-fry and knew that I needed to get broccoli I decided to get it from the produce section instead of the frozen section. However since when ever I get frozen broccoli I get organic broccoli I wanted to get fresh organic broccoli as well. There was only one option that the store had for organic broccoli and that was for Earthbound Farm Organic Broccoli.

The bag that I got contained two broccoli pieces but from what I could tell their was no weight measurement on the bag. It seemed like a lot of broccoli to me. In fact I was a little concerned that I would not be able to finish it before it started to turn. The bag was only two dollars and fifty-eight cents so I thought that it was a really good price for organic broccoli. However as I said before I did have some concerns about how long the broccoli would last. When I bought the bag the florets were not completely green. I went to the website of the company to see how to properly store the Earthbound Farm Organic Broccoli. According to the website the best way to store fresh broccoli is to keep it refrigerated in a plastic bag. It also said to sprinkle water onto the broccoli before adding it to the plastic bag to avoid dehydration. I was glad to have read this and did just that before storing my broccoli away.

The same day that I got the Earthbound Farm Organic Broccoli I used one of the pieces in a stir-fry. I thought that this would ensure that I used all of the fresh broccoli in a timely manner. There was very little that I needed to trim away after washing it really well. Overall it looked pretty good, did not bend easily and had a wonderful smell so I wasn't worried. After it cooked I tasted it and thought that it tasted really great, very crisp and fresh. You couldn't compare the frozen broccoli that I had been getting and using in my stir-fry which included Frozen Organic Broccoli Cuts and Broccoli Florets from Cascadian Farm, Organic Frozen Broccoli from Naturally Preferreds and Organic Petite Broccoli Florets from Safeway O Organics. I later had some of this fresh broccoli uncooked and I still thought that it had a nice taste. Eager to learn about the nutrition that it offered I returned to the company's website.

Even though the bag of Earthbound Farm Organic Broccoli didn't have the nutrition facts printed on it I wasn't worried because I knew that I could look it up online. In a medium stalk of this organic broccoli there is forty-five calories, fifty-five milligrams of sodium, eight grams of carbohydrates, five grams of fiber, three grams of sugars and five grams of protein. I had no idea that broccoli had such a nice amount of protein in it, I was quite pleased to learn this. In addition the nutrition facts listed in the minerals and vitamins section vitamin A with fifteen percent, two hundred and twenty percent for vitamin C and six percent for both calcium and iron. I was very pleased with these nutrition facts even more. I will definitely try to get this fresh organic broccoli more often than frozen organic broccoli. I would highly recommend for anyone else to get this organic fresh broccoli as well.
