Organic Cereal Review: Natural Directions Organic Toasted Oats Cereal
This Cereal Had a Mild Taste but it Tasted Good
To my surprise they have a vast selection of the organic foods. I think that I will start to look out for their food items because they are really reasonably priced items for organic foods. They offered many breakfast foods like the Natural Directions Organic Toasted Oats Cereal. I thought that the cereal was good. It had a mild flavor that was not too sweet nor did it have an overwhelming taste of honey or molasses, so I assumed that those two sweeteners were not in the ingredients. My son, who is a toddler, also tried some of the cereal and he really liked it, even though it wasn't super sweet. I decided to look over the box of organic cereal some while I ate it.
Since it had a mild flavor I wondered what the ingredients of the Natural Directions Organic Toasted Oats Cereal were. Organic whole grain oat flour, organic whole grain brown rice flour, organic evaporated cane juice, organic oat bran, sea salt, tartaric acid, sodium bicarbonate and natural vitamin E make up this organic cereal. I was glad to see that it had so few ingredients. I wasn't familiar with tartaric acid but after looking into it I saw it was an organic acid that is derived from plants and is used to give a sour taste to foods or used as an antioxidant. The cereal wasn't sour so I assumed that it was used for the second reason. In addition to looking over the ingredients I looked at the nutrition facts.
In one cup of Natural Directions Organic Toasted Oats Cereal there is one hundred and twenty calories with fifteen calories from fat. There is one hundred and forty milligrams of sodium and ninety-five milligrams of potassium in a cup of this cereal as well as twenty-two grams of carbohydrates, three grams of both fiber and sugars and four grams of protein. In the minerals and vitamins section it listed six percent for iron, two percent for riboflavin, four percent for zinc and copper and ten percent for thiamin, phosphorus and magnesium for a cup, which is a serving of the cereal. There is about nine servings in every box which is less than three dollars. I thought that the nutrition facts didn't look too bad.
I think that the next time that I am shopping I will keep an eye for the Natural Directions Organic Toasted Oats Cereal. In addition to looking for this organic cereal I will see if I can find other cereals from the same company. If you don't like super sweet cereal I would highly recommend this cereal. If you prefer to have a lot of sweetness in your cereal I think that a pinch or two of sugar added to the cereal will sweeten it a bit more and of course adding honey to it would equally raise the amount of sweetness it has. If you add sugar or honey to your cereal I would recommend trying this cereal because it does have a nice flavor, despite not being super sweet and you could always made it sweeter if you wanted to. I am glad that I tried it and am sure I'll try it again.
