All of the clothing that Whole Foods carries are made out of organic materials. Mostly organic cottons, but there are some hemp products as well. The clothes are manufactured using fair-trade practices. Which means no sweat shops. With fair-trade, the employees that make the clothing are paid well and often share in the companies profits. Many of the fair trade companies are actually co-ops where each employee is a partial owner of the company. These clothes aren't only good for the environment, they are good for the people that make them as well.
The quality of the clothing is excellent. It is well made and sturdy. The materials are extremely soft to the touch. At this point, the selection isn't huge, but as time goes on more variety is being added. They have a lot of t-shirts and button up shirts that are stylish for teenagers and adults alike. There is not much of a selection for pants and skirts. What selection they do have is often not likely to appeal to teenagers as much as adults. The messenger bags and tennis shoes are great. They are a big hit with kids and teenagers. At first glance, the tennis shoes look like tennis shoes that you would see at any other store. A closer investigation shows that they are quite different. The soles of the shoes are made out of recycled tires. The uppers which unbelievably look and feel like leather are actually made out of cotton. They truly are amazing.
How about price? The tennis shoes will run anywhere from sixty to one-hundred dollars. Not much more than a lot of popular brand tennis shoes. The clothing is definitely more expensive than Target or Walmart but cheaper than designer clothes. Like many clothing manufacturers, the women's clothes are more expensive than the men's clothes. Unfair as it is, that is reality. Men's t-shirts start at twenty-eight dollars. Women's tops are anywhere from fifty to one-hundred. Pants for both men and women run around sixty dollars.
Lets not forget the baby clothes. Pajamas, dresses, jumpers, robes, bibs and baby booties. Whole Foods has it all. Adorable organic baby clothes. Yes, they are more expensive than target, but you will only be putting the healthiest clothing on your baby.
Organic clothing is better for the environment and your health. Organic clothing lessens chemical pollution into our water supply and soil. Organic clothing doesn't put harmful pesticides and chemicals into our bodies when we wear them.
As it becomes more popular, prices will go down and more styles will emerge. In the meantime, if organic clothing appeals to you but the price makes you cringe, consider buying less clothing in order to afford organic. Quality over quantity.
