Organic Corn Review: Libby's Organic Whole Kernel Sweet Corn
This Corn was Pretty Good and an Excellent Price
I liked the idea of having some corn on hand and I thought that it might be nice to have sweet corn. I wasn't too familiar with the Libby's brand but from what I could find on the can they were owned by Seneca Foods along with about five other brands. On the can was their website so I went to see what I could find out about them. Unfortunately I didn't find out much about their organic line and again only had the can to go off of to find out about the company. They were very well priced for being organic. A can of Libby's Organic Whole Kernel Sweet Corn that held about one and three-fourths of a cup worth of corn was only eighty-six cents. In the can there was about three and a half one-half cup servings.
In each serving of the Libby's Organic Whole Kernel Sweet Corn there was sixty calories with fifteen calories from fat. I thought that it was interesting that a quarter of the calories came from fat. There was two hundred and seventy milligrams of sodium per serving which made me think that there was added salt. There was also two grams both of protein and fiber, seven grams of sugars and nine grams of carbohydrates in every serving of this organic corn. In the minerals and vitamins section I was disappointed to see there was only six percent listed for vitamin C and less than two percent listed for iron. As it turned out the ingredients of the Libby's Organic Whole Kernel Sweet Corn were organic corn, water and sea salt, so although there was added salt I was glad that it was sea salt.
I have to be honest and say that I was a little bit glad that there was already added salt to this canned organic corn. This took the pressure of me to season it correctly and I will say that it was seasoned correctly. I thought that the Libby's Organic Whole Kernel Sweet Corn tasted really good. Even though it was canned corn it still had some of the wonderful qualities of the frozen corn that I get. I was quite delicious and I ate a ton of it. My son also enjoyed it, which I was really happy about because I think it is important for him to eat lots of vegetables. I was very glad that I tried this corn and found it for such a nice price, although I don't know how often I will get it.
I have to admit that I think that the Libby's Organic Whole Kernel Sweet Corn tasted great but I am just not convinced canned goods is how I want to get my vegetables. Thinking about the nutrition and all I have to wonder how much better it is for me to get fresh, or even frozen, over canned. I certainly don't mind getting them from time to time though. In the case of this organic corn I don't think it will be something that I will stock up on, nor will it be something that I will get a lot of in the future but I have a feeling that I will get it again. I would recommend for anyone to give the Libby's Organic Whole Kernel Sweet Corn a try.
