Even Though This Corn Came from a Can it was Still Really, Really Good

It has been a long time since I got myself a can of corn to have on hand. I had planned on minimizing the number of canned goods and for a while I was only getting cans of Black Pearls Olives and Canned Pineapple Chunks, Organic Pineapple Chunks and Pineapple Tidbits. This all changed when I started getting canned soups to have for my lunches and when I got can of some Organic Black Beans and canned vegetables to have on hand. One of the canned vegetables that I recently got was some canned corn. I got a couple different cans because I wanted to have some sweet corn on hand as well as just plain golden corn. Therefore, I got a can of Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn. I was very, very pleased with the Westbrae company, in fact the can of organic black beans that I had were from this company and I also got some Organic Whole Wheat Spaghetti from them as well. So far I was happy with everything of theirs that I tried, so I was looking forward to trying some of their golden corn.

I also recently got some Frozen Organic Corn, so I was curious to see if I thought that the frozen corn tasted better or if the canned corn did. When I opened the can of Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn I was going to be adding it to a cold bean salad. The salad was essentially a couple different beans, some onions and some corn. As a vegetarian I am always looking for ways to make complete proteins in my dishes and I know that beans and corn together make a complete protein, not to mention they compliment one another in their taste. I assumed that sweet corn would have not tasted as good as golden corn so I was glad that I had the can of Westrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn for this cold bean salad. In addition to tasting the corn in the salad I also set a couple small spoonfuls aside so I could taste it by itself to get a better idea of its taste.

In the cold bean salad I thought that the Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn tasted excellent. In addition making a complete protein it added just an absolute wonderful flavor to the salad. When I tried some of the corn by itself I still thought that It really offered something very nice, I was quite pleased with what I was tasting and so glad that I got the can of corn. The corn kernals were not too mushy and even though they came out of a can they still had a lot of wonderful flavor. I thought that they were very good and were just as tasty as the frozen organic corn that I had on hand. I could seriously see how it would come in handy to keep a can of this corn on hand, however I wasn't complete convinced that I wanted to continue to get more canned foods than I really absolutely needed to. I looked over the can to review the nutrition facts and to see what the ingredients were going to be.

I was actually quite surprised at the ingredients in the Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn. Even though the corn was not sweet it stilled contained sugar, I found this most peculiar. The ingredients of canned corn was organic golden sweet corn, water, dehydrated cane juice and sea salt. I was happy to see that the salt that was used in the corn was sea salt but a little bit disappointed to see the use of sugar and that it wasn't organic. However I am sure that the amount of sugar used in the corn was so small that it really wasn't a big deal that it wasn't organic. As for the nutrition facts I was wondering how the use of sea salt would affect the amount of sodium in every serving and wondering how the use of sugar was going to affect the amount of sugars that were in the Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn.

The nutrition facts for the Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn were based one half of a cup. There was about three and half servings in each can or about one and three-fourths cup in each can. In a serving of this organic corn there was only ninety calories with ten calories from fat. The sodium content was not low and actually was three hundred and forty milligrams for every serving and as for the sugars content there was only five grams per serving. I didn't think that the sugars content was too high although I certainly wondered how low it would have been had the corn not had any sugar added to it, the frozen corn that I had on hand also had five grams of sugars so maybe the amount of sugar in the corn was too low to even raise that much if at all. The remaining nutrition facts included fourteen grams of carbohydrates and two gram of both fiber and protein for every on half of a cup of corn. In the minerals and vitamins section of the nutrition facts for the Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn it listed vitamin C with four percent and iron with half of that. All around that I thought that the nutrition facts for this organic corn looked pretty good.

I serious doubt that I will get this organic corn a lot. This is nothing against the corn though, I truly thought that it tasted really, really good. I just think that I will eventually go back to eliminating as many canned goods as I can. Until that happens though I think that I might be inclined to get a can of Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn again. When I first got the corn it wasn't on sale and only cost one dollar and eighty-nine cents. I suppose that if it went on sale I think that I will get a can or two just to have on hand. I would recommend for anyone to try out the Westbrae Natural Organic Whole Kernel Golden Corn. As I said I thought that it was good mixed in with other foods as well as all by itself and again I was very glad that I got it and tried it.
