Organic Democracy in the Middle East and North Africa

It May Not Be Much, but There is Something We Can All Do

This is a call, just a small plea to spread the word. Halfway across the world people are uniting to have a say in their social contract. Libya, Egypt, Bahrain, to name a few. This organic uprising is the only force that can create a true democracy -- a fact that all Americans should be aware of. But, in order for this to benefit the peoples who have crowded the street, we all need to acknowledge what is needed and put out into the world how this can work to ease the suffering of humanity in one part of the world.

All of you who read this, tell it. Pray it, meditate it, put it out there to your friends and neighbors. These revolutionary countries need the right leaders, the right men or women for the right time. Pray for a Washington, a Lincoln, a Jefferson, a Ghandi, a Mandela to take to the fore. The Middle East needs leaders of this caliber at this point: people of conviction, tempered by religion and secular understanding, forward-thinkers, people of grace.

They need our calls to our leaders. They need our word of mouth. They need our understanding that human dignity and self-governance go hand in hand.

A rising tide raises all ships.

There are models, take the Marshall Plan for example, of how this can work. People deserve better than being gunned down in the streets by leaders desperate only to hold onto their own power. Remember, we had to have a revolution to get the rights that we understand belong to all peoples.

Love your neighbor. Pass it along. It may not be fighting on the front lines, but what harm can come from souls crying out for a cause?
