Organic Food Delivery Services: An Overview

Stephanie Michael
I've been trying to eat healthier, watching my calories, watching my carbohydrate intake and most recently, watching my pesticides. It used to be hard to find organic produce but in the last few years I've noticed it's easier to find and most places offer a growing selection. I wanted to find a grocery delivery service that catered specifically to organically minded customers. Here are the top two:

Sun Organic Farm

With a simple but easy website Sun organic farm allows you to shop for USDA certified organic food that can be delivered right to your house anywhere in the United States. I found their selection to be vast ranging from baking soda to pre-packaged tomato soup. It was interesting to see the large range of organic products available. They had fresh produce, grains, coffees, and pastas. I also found they had a great selection of dried fruit, nuts and nut butter. The prices were more than reasonable and compared to prices at my local grocery store. They add a $2.50 handling fee and shipping costs are calculated by weight. Most packages are shipped UPS ground but additional shipping methods are available upon request. I ordered the "Priority sweetheart gift package" which included 1 pound each; Almonds, Honey Dates, 1 box Northwest Blackberry & Herb Tea, 1/2 pound each Chocolate Covered Almonds, Chocolate Covered Raisins, Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans, and a 1 pound jar of Orange Blossom Honey. Everything certified organic (except the honey.) When it arrived I enjoyed opening the individual packages and mixing them to create my own certified organic trail mix. I really enjoyed the rich chocolate taste of the almonds, raisins, and espresso beans. As well as the honey, this has a subtle citrus flavor. I ordered some fresh vegetables on Monday and I'm excited to receive my farm fresh produce.

Diamond organics

Specializes in overnight organic produce to the United States. The website is easy to navigate and the products they offer are vast and range in price from reasonable to some what pricey. I did notice that the higher priced items were usually baskets or gift sets and that they usually included free overnight or next day shipping. For the fresh and frozen produce the prices were reasonable for what you would find at your local organic market but a little pricier than what you would find at the regular grocery store. I noticed that they had a large selection of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meats, dairy, and organic spirits as well. They also offer a wide range of pre cooked appetizers and dinners in "Kathleen's Kitchen" and samplers. I noticed that they have a special going on offering 5% off your first order and so I had to try. I purchased organic frozen raspberries, blueberries, and black berries and some fresh strawberries. Shipping is based on weight and reasonable considering you get it the next day or overnight. The strawberries reminded me of the summers spent picking berries at Knot's Berry Farms. They were juicy and delicious and even the frozen berries tasted sweeter than the ones I find in my grocery store.

Sometimes it can be hard to find local distributors of certified organic foods but with the wide range of products available on these sites I don't think ill have too hard a time stocking my shelves with fresh and organic goodies.

Good info on organic food delivery. This seems to be becoming much more common. I've noticed that most grocery stores offer delivery now too. There are also buying clubs which can be a good option for some. My grandparents live way out in the country and have a group who all place orders together every month and by adding it all together and buying in bulk they save quite a bit on organic food.

Very helpful for those looking for organic food that can be delivered. I know elderly people who no longer drive but would like this option.

Thanks so much for the great information Lynze! :) Youre absolutley right about the carbon emissions. I'll have to look into some local options :)

I do love organic food. but I try to purchase from my local farmer's market. Organic can mean "healthier" for your body; but you should keep in mind where the organic food is coming from. If it's coming from somewhere across the world, then the package you ordered is adding to the carbon emissions used to ship them to your house. I'm becoming more interested in community supported agriculture, where you can have food delevered to your doorstep from local farms in your area for a monthly/yearly fee. Good Article though! I hope more people start buying organic, even if it means a little more carbon emissions to get them there... I guess we have to start somewhere right?
