The first is an online organic retailer called organic direct, www.organicdirect.com, they offer fresh baked, frozen items, fresh produce, meats and poultry, kosher foods and much more, all of which are organic in nature. The prices are certainly better than Whole Foods. The minimum for delivery is $50 with a $15 minimum for credit card purchases. If you already are familiar and loyal to specific organic brands, then this is the place for you. I personally purchase many of my non-produce organic groceries from organic direct. I tend to favor purchasing my produce from local farmer's markets and community supported agricultural programs.
Another options is Organic NY, www.organicny.com, this is kind of like a community supported agricultural program that is online. Each week you can order either the family pack (20-25 pounds) or the compact box (15-20 pounds) of organic fruits and veggies. If you live in any of the areas drop off sites, the box is delivered to your home. If you live do not live near a drop of point, the box is shipped via UPS. Every week you get a list of what is coming in the order for that week. I must say it gets some getting used to. It is kind of like being an Iron Chef. You get a box of ingredients and now you have to use your creative juices to make something tasty and healthy. Oh...of course you can cheat as Organic NY provides some recipe suggestions to help you. It is great and after a while, you get the hang of preparing meals with organic ingredients that are at the peak of season.
These are both different ways of purchasing organic produce and other grocery items. The fantastic thing about it is everything is fresh and it is a nice surprise to see a box filled with wonderfully fresh foods that are sweet and colorful. It makes me happy. A happy mom has a happy family.
Organic grocery shopping is now quite simple and it can save quite a bit of time by ordering online. Give it a try, many of the delivery options do not require a membership.
