Organic Food Favorites

Ray Mickol
Organic shopping is much easier than one thinks. Local supermarkets are carrying their own organic lines. There are local stores catering to the organic foodie and in the larger urban areas the national chains have made their presence known in this growing niche market. Many producers of organic food market their product online.

One of my favorite organic food producers is produced by Bob's Red Mill www.bobsredmill.com. Bob's carries over 400 products including gluten free products, many kinds of flours a full line of certified organic products and my personal favorite, hot cereals. My favorite of the hot cereals is Steel Cut Oats. These oats make a great breakfast, or if you are like me, a great anytime meal. They are a thicker cut oat than most are used to. They cook up into a quite full bodied, thickly textured bowl of cereal. This organic oat cereal is a nutritional powerhouse. The average ΒΌ cup serving contains 140 calories, 25 calories from fat, 27 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of dietary fiber and absolutely no cholesterol, sugars or sodium. Steel Cut Oats retail for $2.42 for a 24 oz bag. Those are some good reasons to enjoy this organic food but my favorite reason is simply because I like it. All of Bob's Red Mill products are available on their website. He even has a handy store finder. In the Cleveland area, I purchase mine at Nature's Bin. Nature's Bin is located at 18120 Sloane Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio. Their phone number is 216-521-9460. Their information packed web site is www.cornucopia-inc.org.

My all time favorite organic food has to be the yogurt produced by Stoneyfield Farm www.stoneyfield.com. This yogurt is rich, creamy and flavorful. Pure heaven. The flavor blends are fantastic. My favorite flavors are the Caramel, Raspberry and Maple Vanilla. The Caramel and raspberry both contain 130 calories and the Maple Vanilla has 180 calories. They all contain approximately 1.5 grams of total fat, 5 grams of cholesterol and 7 grams of protein. Their web site has a handy store finder. In the Greater Cleveland area Stoneyfield products can be found in many local supermarkets and organic food stores
