The next time that you go to the market to pick out produce, ask yourself this- What is the difference between organic produce, and regular produce? Maybe you have heard of "organic" produce, but never really cared to know the difference, other than the fact that organic produce may be a bit different in price versus regular produce. Simply put, organic produce is labeled differently than regular produce- pretty much in the same way that certain meat packaging carries the attached USDA certified food label. Whenever you see the green USDA sticker label on produce, it indicates that not only has your produce passed inspections for quality and freshness, but it also indicates that the facility from which the produce was cultivated from has also passed inspection for cleanliness and optimal growing conditions.
Organic also means that no pesticides or insecticides were used during the growth process, which makes significantly makes a difference when it comes to your health. Whenever pesticides or insecticides are used for raising crops, the chemicals from those solutions are actually absorbed into the produce. When these regular produce are purchased and prepared by consumers, such as yourself, then you are actually endangering the health of you and the rest of your family by digesting these fruits and vegetables into your system.
Organic foods and produce are much safer and more natural, in the way that everything is raised in a controlled and monitored environment. Often times, farmers of organic produce will utilize the natural ecosystem for pest control and prevention. This often involves a balanced environment where birds and "helpful" insects carry on a cycle of harmonious living conditions; they keep each other in check to prevent overpopulating conditions. Also, organic farmers prefer to use the same nutrient rich soil for their crops, instead of having to establish a new batch of soil. Crops are usually maintained manually, meaning that heavy machines and equipment are rarely depended on.
Organic meat and poultry farmers raise their stock by feeding them organic feeds, and not "slop" type of meals. The animals are encouraged to go outdoors instead of being cooped up in pens and cages. This is especially helpful in preventing the growth and spread of diseases, which usually occur in crowded and stagnating conditions. Also, no growth hormones or chemicals are introduced to organic stock, only well-balanced meals and diets are given to the animals.
If consumers could become more educated and motivated to eat and be healthy, then they would be able to make wiser decisions when it comes to their health. Research and studies have shown that organic foods do make a difference, especially in the prevention of Cancer, obesity, and even Alzheimer's. In addition, organic foods are tastier and flavorful because they do not contain taste bud killing chemicals.
