Organic Instant Oatmeal Review: Village Farm Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal
I Thought that This Instant Oatmeal was Some of the Best that I Have Ever Tried
There was a time when I would make fresh oatmeal almost every morning. I found that it was nice in the Fall, Winter and Spring and was much cheaper than cereal. I would add in walnuts and raisins or apples and overall it wasn't too bad. However that was when I had more time to spend in my kitchen. Now that my time has been limited I have been turning to quicker options, like granola and frozen waffles, and the most recent one instant oatmeal. I never was a huge fan of instant oatmeal but I hoped that since the Village Farm Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal was organic that it might actually taste really good. Plus even if the taste was still not the best at least it would be made from organic oats. I wondered if any of the other ingredients were organic. According to the box the ingredients of Village Farm Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal are organic rolled oats, organic dehydrate cane juice solids, organic maple sugar, sea salt, natural flavor and organic spices. I was impressed that the spices used in the instant oatmeal was organic as well as every other ingredients, with the exception of the natural flavor and sea salt obviously. I thought it was interesting that sugar was the second ingredient and hoped that the instant oatmeal would not be too sweet.
I wanted to make the Village Farm Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal correctly and so I followed the directions on the box to my best ability. First I needed to boil some water, I didn't bother measuring out the amount because I figured that some of it would evaporate anyway. However once the water was boiling I poured the packet of instant oatmeal into an empty bowl and pulled out a measuring cup. I measured half of a cup of water and added it to the dry oats. The instant oatmeal suggested that you add about one-half of a cup to two-thirds of a cup of boiling water to the oatmeal. I figured that I would start out with the smaller amount to make sure that the oatmeal didn't become too watery. After letting it cool for a bit I stirred it around and thought that it looked like the perfect consistency. The morning that I made this oatmeal both me and my son would be having it for breakfast. This meant that I had to let his portion cool off a lot before serving it to him. I stuck it in the fridge to do this quickly. In no time we were ready to eat the oatmeal. Not knowing whether or not I would need to add some milk to the oatmeal to make it taste better and to make it have a better texture I waited to add some until I took that first bite.
One thing that I have never liked with instant oatmeal is the processed taste that comes with it. This taste was completely absent in the Village Farm Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal. I can't say that I thought that it tasted better than the best homemade oatmeal that I have had but I can say that I thought that it was probably one of the best kinds of instant oatmeal that I have tried. My son also enjoyed it and neither of us felt the need to add milk. Later on we changed up the amount of water to less so we could add some rice milk to cool it off with out turning our oatmeal into soup. Each time the instant oatmeal still had an absolute wonderful flavor and it wasn't too sweet at all. It also didn't require any other sweeteners and both me and my son loved it. I was so glad that we decided to get it this instant oatmeal and definitely would not be against getting it again and beginning to eat it more often.
Before completely being sold on the Village Farm Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal I had to check out the nutrition facts. In one packet of oatmeal there was one hundred and fifty calories with fifteen calories from fat. There was two hundred milligrams of sodium in the packet of instant oatmeal due to the added sea salt as well as thirty grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fiber, thirteen grams of sugars and four grams of protein. Iron was listed with six percent for this amount of oatmeal as well. I thought that the nutrition facts didn't look too bad and at two dollars and sixty-two cents a box I didn't think that getting this oatmeal again would be such a bad idea. The box contains eight packets of instant oat meal and each packet contained a serving of oatmeal. Every morning I make two packets and give about a fourth of the amount of instant oatmeal to my son and eat the rest myself. For this reason it only last us four days but our breakfast is only about sixty-five or sixty-six cents a day. I can't really complain about an organic breakfast that cost so little, taste so good and offers some nice nutrition. I would recommend to anyone who likes oatmeal to give the Village Farm Organic Maple Spice Instant Oatmeal a try.
