Cottonseed Meal (5-2-1)
Cottonseed Meal comes to us from the cotton industry. The nitrogen is a slow release product. Blackberries and gardenias will like this product because it acidifies the soil.
Ringer Lawn Restore, contains no manures, or synthetic ingredients. It is made from feather meal, bone meal, and soybean meal. All of these ingredients slowly break down, providing a steady supply of nutrients.
Agrowinn-LAWN-Food, is an all organic lawn fertilizer. The Ingredients include, minerals, worm-Castings which act as soil amendments. Steamed sterilized Blood Meal, Feather Meal, Steamed sterilized Bone Meal, Soybean Meal, Kelp Meal, Rock Phosphate, Sulfate of Potash, Cottonseed Meal. This product also contains corn gluten meal that acts as a pre emergent herbicide, so don't spread this product on new-seeded lawns.
In addition to fertilizers there are other approaches to organic lawn fertilizers. Mow the grass at regular intervals so that you are taking off the top 1/3 of the grass blade. Leave the clipping on the lawn. Grass clippings are an excellent source of nitrogen. Fish emulsion is another fine slow release fertilizer that will not harm you or your pets. It will stink up the yard for a few hours, but it goes away.
An emerald green, freshly mowed lawn invites one to slip out of their shoes and play catch with the kids or a boisterous game of tag. It's best if we can keep our lawns healthy without the harsh chemicals and their nasty by products
Lush lawns, long thought to be the reward of chemical fertilizer applications and short frequent watering, are available to anyone willing to learn alternatives. Grass, vegetables, fruit, no matter what you grow, depends on the solid foundation of soil structure.
Healthy soil can be built without the addition of chemical fertilizers. Fertilizers add nothing to the health of the soil. They add nutrients at the top level of soil and give a quick feeding fix to the grass. Read the list of ingredients on a fertilizer bag and you will see that nitrogen is the top ingredient. The problem with chemical nitrogen is that it sits on top of the ground, dissolves quickly and doesn't soak deep enough into the soil to drive the roots down. The excess nitrogen gets washed away.
