Organic Lentils Review: Bob's Red Mill Organic Red Lentils

This Are Super Easy to Cook and Are Great for Pizza and Pasta Sauces

For some time now I have been getting bulk amounts of red lentils. I discovered the use of lentils when I decided to give up eating Morningstar Farms Gound Burger and Boca Ground Burger and was looking for something that I could add to my pasta sauces and pizza sauces for protein that wasn't soy and was organic. Lentils would be cheaper than soy and the non-organic fake ground burger that I was eating anyway because I was able to find them in bulk. The last time that I needed to get some red lentils I noticed that the sticker told you the brand of the lentils. The brand was Bob's Red Mill, which I was familiar with because I get their Organic Whole Wheat Flour. I found it very interesting that all this time I had been getting the Bob's Red Mill brand and I was actually quite pleased because I could look up the nutrition facts on their website. Although at the store you can see the nutrition facts it is hard to analyze the nutrition facts when you are standing there with other people trying to get their bulk food.

In a fourth of a cup of Bobs Red Mill Organic Red Lentils there are one hundred and fifty calories but no calories are from fat. There is only fifteen milligrams of sodium in the serving size of a fourth of a cup as well as two grams of sugars, seven grams of fiber, twenty seven grams of carbohydrates and what I was most interested in eleven grams of protein. There is not anything added to the red lentils so the sugars and sodium that is in it is all natural. I was quite pleased to have finally found the time to look at the nutrition facts of red lentils. I was especially happy about their protein content too. As I mentioned before I use the red lentils in pizza sauces and pasta sauces and now I made a point to measure out a half of a cup to an entire cup of red lentils depending on the size of the batch of either pasta sauce or pizza sauce that I was making to add in to the sauce. Even though there is an added taste when you use lentils in sauces if you like the taste, which I do, you don't mind.

For anyone that is unfamiliar with lentils they are actually amazingly easy to cook. Depending on the variety that you have will affect the cooking method that you use but I find that with the Bobs Red Mill Organic Red Lentils they are very easy to cook. I just add them to the pasta sauce that I am making and bring it to a mild boil. Then I turn the temperature down to low and let them simmer for about ten minutes. If I am cooking the lentils by themselves I do the same thing except instead of bringing pasta sauce to a boil I am bringing water to a boil. I know that they have cooked a lot if they have lost there red shade and turned a light yellow. This usually doesn't happen in ten minutes though. When I was on the Bob's Red Mill website I noticed that it suggested that some people enjoy eating them raw. While I have yet to do this it is good to know that you can. I would recommend for anyone who likes red lentils to give the Bobs Red Mill Organic Red Lentils a try. I have no reason to get another brand of organic red lentils and so I will happily continue to get this brand of organic red lentils.
