Organic Marinara Sauce Review: Newman's Own Organic Marinara Sauce

This Marinara Sauce was Very Good and I Am Glad that I Decided to Try It

For some time now I have been trying out different tomato and pasta sauces that were organic but this was the first time that I had got a marinara sauce to try. There was a time when every time that I had pasta I made it with some marinara sauce. I don't recall the brand of the sauce but I was choosing it because I was told that if a pasta sauce was called marinara this referred to the fact that it wouldn't have any meat in it. I am not sure if this was the real reason a sauce is called marinara or not but it didn't contain any meat so I continued to get it. When I saw the jar of Newman's Own Organic Marinara Sauce in the grocery store I was confident that it wouldn't contain any meat.

To verify that this sauce was in fact vegetarian I read the ingredients while I was still in the grocery store. The ingredients of the Newman's Own Organic Marinara Sauce were tomato puree that was organic and made of water and organic tomato paste, organic diced tomatoes were next on the list and organic sugar, organic soybean oil, sea salt, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic onion, organic basil, organic dried garlic, organic black pepper and dried fennel followed. Lucky for me the list of ingredients was extremely short and even though I was in the store it was not difficult reading the contents of the marinara sauce in a hurry. With the marinara sauce in my cart I was off to finish my other grocery shopping.

Now while I may have looked at the ingredients of this sauce while I was still in the grocery store I didn't take the time to review the nutrition facts of the Newman's Own Organic Marinara Sauce until I got home. At the first glance of the nutrition facts I thought that the facts were going to be very similar to your average healthy organic pasta sauce. There was seventy calories in every one half cup of the pasta sauce and twenty calories from fat. There were less than one gram of dietary fiber, two grams of protein, eleven grams of sugars, twelve grams of carbohydrates and five hundred and fifty milligrams of sodium. Pasta sauces are often so high in sodium that I was not surprised by these numbers. In the remaining part of the nutrition facts, the minerals and vitamins section, there was ten percent listed for iron, four percent listed for calcium and twenty percent listed for vitamin A. I thought that these nutrition facts looked very good.

The Newman's Own Organic Marinara Sauce was very inexpensive, when it comes to a jar containing three cups of sauce. Regular price was two dollars and eighty two cents, usually I am lucky to find a sale for three dollars for such an amount of organic pasta sauce. I was very pleased about the price of this marinara sauce. In addition to liking the price I also really liked the taste of the sauce as well. I thought that it had a good flavor that was even a little bit sweet, or at least sweeter than what I am use to having. I am glad that I tried this marinara sauce and I imagine that I may be inclined to get it again at such a price. I would recommend for anyone who likes marinara sauce to give it a try. If you can find it for the same price that I did you will likely save a lot of money getting it over some other organic pasta sauce.
