Organic Pest Control: Get Rid of Cockroaches Without Harmful Pesticides

Cockroaches can be really difficult get rid of, but if you don't treat the problem it will get worse as they multiply very easily and quickly. If you do not want to use pesticides, the good news is that organic pest control is possible for cockroaches. Organic pest control is great for use in homes with children and pets, or for those who may be sensitive to toxic pesticides. If you want a natural alternative to commercial products that kill roaches, here are some generally known ways.

First things first, try to locate where the cockroaches are coming from. If there are cracks in your walls or you have windows and doors that have spaces around or underneath them, then these could be roaches' points of entry. Fix these areas with caulking or insulation, or at minimum use plastic grocery bags to seal up these spaces.

Sometimes cockroaches come up through the drains in sinks and tubs. An easy remedy for cockroaches coming up through drains is to pour a little household bleach down the drain, and if possible close it.

Cockroaches are attracted to areas that are dark and damp like under kitchen and bathroom sinks. Be sure to fix dripping faucets or leaky pipes as they are attracted to water. They also like to hide in the corners and backs of cupboards where food crumbs may accumulate. Clear out places that have clutter. Do a thorough cleaning of these areas so that you can eliminate their comfort zones and more successfully get rid of cockroaches.

Use a jar with a little bait of bread soaked in beer, coffee grounds, or water in it. The cockroaches will be attracted to it, fall in and will not be able to come out. To repel cockroaches put either bay leaves, garlic, hedgeapple, or cucumber slices in areas where the roaches settle. You can also soak pieces of cloth in eucalyptus oil and put them in the corners of cupboards.

Until the cockroaches start dieing off you can use a mixture of soap and water in a spray bottle to directly spray them with. This will kill the cockroach quickly.

A more stringent method of organic pest control for cockroaches is to use a mixture of boric acid, flour and cocoa (in a 1:2:1 ratio) and lightly dust it in corners and along the sides of cupboards. If you have pets or children you may want to just use the dust on the tops of cupboards as this mixture will pose a danger to them.
