Organic Silverfish Pest Control

In the past I have found silverfish to creep out in the spring and here are some organic pest control methods to rid your home of these critters. Entomologists call these busters lepisma saccarina- I simply like to call them silverfish- you see I am not an entomologist by profession!
  1. These fellows like most living conditions. Reduce the humidity in your home by investing in a dehumidifier and fans. It is important to fix any leaks and drips that way you are sure your dehumidifiers can do their job. Also I suggest sealing any gaps you have with simple silicone calk.
  2. Silverfish can live without food for 1 year. So once you get them it will be hard to get rid of them. Silverfish enjoy cereal grains, starches, paper, book glue, silks, cotton ect. So if you are plan to store clothes or books, make sure you don't put the clothes and books near each other and if you do, have tightly sealed bins for each. I put bars of soap in the bins to prevent them. Keep your cloths off the floor- this is a nice hiding spot for silverfish. Keep your cloths off the floor- this is a nice hiding spot for silverfish
  3. Cucumbers have a natural silverfish repellant. Cut thick strips of cucumbers put them anywhere you are getting silverfish. Once the strips dry up, your visitors should be gone. If they are not, you can replace the dried cucumber strips with fresh ones and repeat this process until these pets are gone. This is a great organic way to do silverfish pest control.
  4. Did you know cloves are organic and natural insect repellent? I get small mesh bags and put satchels of cloves in the corners of my house and right where I now I have a silverfish hub to prevent them from coming. This has worked for years!
  5. My last organic silverfish control is to take a bowl and mix water and flour into a thick paste. Take some index cards and coat with the flour paste. Allow to dry completely and then place these flour coated index cards any where you get silverfish. This should surely do the trick.
  6. Wallpaper glue is a heavenly meal for these silverfish. I suggest removing all wallpaper and using a nice durable paint to spark up some interest in your home and deter these pests.
Good luck playing organic exterminator this weekend!
