Organic Soup Review: Muir Glen Organic Garden Vegetable Soup
The Canned Soup Tasted Really, Really Good and I was Glad that I Had it on Hand
The soup did not take long to heat up. While it did heat up I sat at my dining room table looking over the can. I was reading it because I wanted to follow the cooking directions for the soup and because I also wanted to know what the nutrition facts were. I couldn't help but feel a little bit guilty that I was eating canned soup as I knew that fresh soup would have been so much more healthier for me. I have to be honest and say that I wasn't feeling up to cutting up vegetables and making a soup from scratch. Still I knew that this soup would offer me at least some good nutrition. The can contained an entire cup of vegetable soup and according to the nutrition facts this equaled two one half cup size servings. In each serving of the Muir Glen Organic Garden Vegetable Soup there is eighty calories with only five calories from fat. There is an entire nine hundred and sixty milligrams of sodium in each serving as well as three grams of both fiber and protein, five grams of sugars and sixteen grams of carbohydrates. In the minerals and vitamins section of this vegetable soup there was four percent for vitamin A, calcium and iron. With the high amount of sodium I wondered what the ingredients were going to be.
The ingredients of Muir Glen Organic Garden Vegetable Soup are water, organic tomato puree made of water and organic tomato paste, organic carrots, organic diced celery, organic corn, organic cut green beans, organic peas, organic tomatoes, organic potatoes, organic penne rigate pasta made of durum semolina and egg white, sea salt, organic corn starch, organic onion, organic red bell pepper, organic cooked vegetables carrots, onions and celery, organic onion powder, organic garlic powder, organic cane juice, organic canola oil, organic black pepper, organic basil, organic carrot powder, organic potato flour, citric acid, natural flavor, organic oregano, organic parsley flakes and calcium chloride. Seeing how vegetables have a natural amount of sodium in them and that there is added sea salt to the soup the sodium content is not all that surprising. Upon eating the soup I was able to taste all of the wonderful ingredients that were listed.
Everything tasted really good, I was amazed at how much the vegetables still had some nice crunch to them. Usually canned soups' vegetables are pretty mushy but these were far from mushy. They didn't taste completely uncooked but they were certainly not overcooked either. The vegetables and the broth of this soup was very, very good and I was glad that I had it on hand. I think that I will get another one to have on hand just in case a day should come where I am craving some vegetable soup and just am not feeling up to making any. The can that I got, which again held a cup of soup, only cost about two dollars. If I remember the price correctly it was eight cents more than a couple of dollars. For this price I think that I can afford to get a can or two just to have on hand. I would recommend for anyone wanting to have a can of organic vegetable soup on hand to get this one to try out.
