I never considered myself a fan of split pea soup but to be completely honest with myself I hardly remembered what it tasted like, let alone know whether or not I liked it or disliked it the last time that I had it. For this reason, I decided to include a can of split pea soup when I came across a sale of organic canned soups. The can was of Health Valley Organic Split Pea Soup. I was particularly interested in the ingredients in split pea soup, the nutrition facts that it had to offer and of course what the overall taste was going to be like. This particular can did not have any added salt so I wondered how that played into the other selected seasonings as well as how it affected the taste of the soup. I checked the ingredients to make sure that it was vegetarian and then added to my cart.

The first thing that I did when I got home and was putting the groceries away was set aside the can of Health Valley Organic Split Pea Soup again. After I had some free time I looked over the can of split pea soup to see what nutrition facts it had. The ingredients of the soup were filtered water, organic green split peas, organic carrots, organic celery, organic peas, organic onions, organic evaporated cane juice, organic potato flakes, concentrated lemon juice, white pepper, bay leaves, organic basil, organic sage, oregano and cloves. I was intrigued that sugar and lemon juice was used. I thought that the seasonings used in the soup sounded good and I loved that so many of the ingredients were organic. Since I already had the can in front of me I decided to look at the split pea soup's cooking instructions.

The cooking instructions of the Health Valley Organic Split Pea Soup were to the point and very simple. All that the instructions of the soup were, were to heat and serve it without adding any water. This sounded so easy that I decided to try the soup right then and there. I think that the soup turned out good but I also think that split pea soup is one of those soups that is that you have really like to fully enjoy. If you don't like split pea soup in general it isn't going to matter what brand you try. I can see how a lot of people prefer others soups over split pea soup. I would say that it has somewhat of an acquired taste. However I can honestly say that as far as spilt pea soups goes I thought that this one was very good. As I mentioned before I was curious to see what kind of nutrition that the split pea soup had to offer.

The Health Valley Organic Split Pea Soup had one hundred and thirty calories with only ten calories from fat in a cup of it. It only had forty-five milligrams of sodium, not surprisingly considering it didn't have any added salt, twenty-seven grams of carbohydrates, five grams of sugars and nine grams each of both protein and fiber in a cup as well. In the minerals and vitamins section of the nutrition facts I was happy to see that vitamin A was listed with forty-five percent, in addition vitamin C was listed with two percent, calcium with four percent and iron with ten percent for a serving size of a cup. All in all I thought that the nutrition facts of the Health Valley Organic Split Pea Soup were actually pretty nice looking. Even though I am not a huge fan of the taste of all split pea soups I am glad that whenever I eat some, or at least this kind, that I will be getting this nutrition.

The can of Health Valley Organic Split Pea Soup actually contained about two servings, or two cups of soup. I thought that a can was pretty filling for a lunch. If I had it for a dinner though I would want to have maybe some bread on the side. I was glad to have gotten this split pea soup because now I know just how much I like split pea soup, which I would say is somewhat. This does not mean that I will be putting it at the top of my list of soups I like but it won't be at the bottom either. If you like split pea soup I would recommend that you give this soup a try. When on sale it goes for about one dollar and sixty-six cents or so. I probably won't get this too often but like I said I was glad that I tried it. I was also very glad of the ingredients that it had and very glad for the nutrition that it had to offer.
