Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural

These Organic Canned Peas Were Not Overcooked and Tasted Great

For awhile now, I have happily been getting canned vegetables. With the seasons changing and my grocery budget getting a little bit tighter, I have been finding it more and more difficult to find good deals on organic fresh fruit and vegetables. While I have not dabbled too much into getting canned organic fruit I have been trying out canned vegetables. I am happy about this because I am selecting organic vegetables at least. Although I wasn't buying fresh organic peas I was getting frozen organic peas, so getting a can of organic peas was going to be something new to me. I was looking forward to comparing the taste, as well as looking forward to already having pre-cooked and thawed organic peas on hand. There were actually two cans of organic sweet peas that I found, both from different companies, and so I got one of each, one of the cans was Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural.

I really didn't have anything bad to say about the Westbrae Natural company. While on their website the other day I recently discovered that all of their cans are lead-free. This is something that I try to find if I am going to be getting some canned goods. Also, I am constantly concerned that anything that has natural flavor in it may not be as vegetarian as I would like. Thankfully the Westbrae Natural company is very supportive of the vegetarian diet and states that all of their natural flavors are not from animals, with the exception of dairy of course. They even have a vegetarian diet pyramid on all of their foods' packaging and on their website. I am very happy to try out their foods, which include their Organic Whole Wheat Spaghetti, Vegetarian Organic Black Beans and other organic beans as well as other organic vegetables including the Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural.

Since it was a hot Summer day when I tried the Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural I didn't worry about heating them up. I figured that since the sweet peas in a can are already cooked a little that there was no sense in cooking them more, this would only aid to them becoming mushy as well as aid to the loss of nutrition. So even though they were not warmed up they still tasted really, really good. I was so glad about this and my son really was enjoying them as well. They were not too mushy at all and actually were at a very nice amount of tenderness, and not overcooked like so many canned vegetables get. We both ate up what was in the can in a hurry. The can only contained one about one and three-fourths cup, which was about three and a half servings. I noticed this when I was looking over the nutrition facts for the Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural.

In one half of a cup of the Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural there was seventy calories with five calories from fat. Also in this serving size there is three grams of fiber, four grams of protein, six grams of sugars and twice that for carbohydrates. The sodium content per half a cup of sweet peas, three hundred and twenty milligrams, clued me into thinking that there was added salt to the organic peas. The ingredients were organic sweet peas, water, organic dehydrated cane juice and sea salt for the Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural. Lastly on the nutrition facts was the minerals and vitamins section, where I saw that calcium was listed with two percent, vitamin A was listed with three times that much, iron was listed with eight percent and amazingly vitamin C was listed with twenty percent.

I am very glad that I found the Westbrae Natural company and I am very glad that I tried some of their organic sweet peas. The can that I got only cost me one dollar and eighty-nine cents. It wasn't the cheapest can of organic sweet peas that I have found but it is definitely the best one that I have found. If money is an issue I'll have to go with the cheaper version, but if it isn't I would definitely get the Organic Sweet Peas from Westbrae Natural again. I would recommend for anyone to give them a try. They are sweet, well cooked, nicely seasoned and offer some nice nutrition. I would also recommend for anyone to try out other foods that the Westbrae Natural company has to offer.
