Organic Tofu: Don't Be Afraid of This Most Healthy Food Product

Versatile Food Can Be Used in so Many Ways

For 30 years my husband and I owned a health food restaurant/store and learned quite a got about the business of healthy eating....We also changed our eating habits quite a lot during that time and found new food items we enjoyed by experimenting with them in various recipes...One such food was as foreign to us as it was, and still is, to many people but we learned so many ways to prepare this so versatile food, it soon became a favorite, of ours and our customers...The product is Tofu.

Tofu is usually grown organically and is made from soy beans; a staple in the diets of Asians for centuries...it is low in fat and calories and lends itself to the flavor of whatever it is cooked with since by itself it really hasn't much taste.

Organic NASOYA is a brand of tofu that has been around for quite a while now and is very dependable for its freshness...they make many textures and varieties, Soft for blending with other foods, Medium for all around uses and Firm for when you want to grill or make a stir fry dish...they even make Extra firm but I haven't used that one yet...

Tofu is also extremely high in calcium and protein and the fact that it really doesn't have much taste makes it truly versatile...it has the texture of a thick pudding.

When my girls were young I used to make it in lasagnas and other Italian dishes just by mixing it up with the cheeses and other ingredients in my recipes...they never knew that what they were eating was so good for them..

In our restaurant we had Tofu on the menu in about 4 different varieties.

We made Tofu Reuben Sandwiches, the tofu was cut in ¼ inch slices and used instead of the meat, but picked up the flavors of the sauerkraut and cheese which was layered on top of them ...grilled between two pieces of rye or pumpernickel bread, it was one of the most popular menu items.

Another was simply called Grilled Tofu with Vegetables... For this and for the Reuben's you do need firm tofu, just cut the tofu into little squares about an inch in size, then put into a heated sauté pan, which has been seasoned with some sesame oil...add some cut up vegetables, whatever you like, and grill until the tofu is slightly browned on all sides...add whatever seasonings you like, and, when ready, serve with brown rice or on top of pasta...it's fast easy and surprisingly good..even people we know who never had tofu before enjoyed these dishes

You can do so much with tofu...Now that we cook at home more often, I always have a package of Organic Nasoya Tofu in the refrigerator...its so fast and easy to prepare with much good nutrition in each bite...as far as I'm concerned, it is a perfect, no-guilt food and it doesn't surprise me that it has become so popular in recent years, even with non-vegetarians...

In each package there are about 5 servings. Each serving has 70 calories, 3 grams of fat, no saturated fat, no trans fat and no cholesterol or sodium... with only 2 grams of carbs and 7 grams of protein, you can see why this is the perfect diet food for losing weight and for healthful eating...

Nasoya Organic Tofu is available in most grocery stores in the Organic food section at a cost of about 2-3 dollars

So if someone says to you, "Do you Tofu? Proudly answer back with a resounding yes!

Interesting. I recently had my first (known) experience with Tofu while at a Chinese dig. Of course, it did take on the taste of the soup that it was in, but the thing that really threw me was the texture. It was so soft and it reminded me almost of jello. But, I took a look at your picture and noticed that they had a firm variety of tofu. That might be worth a second chance.
