Organic Tomato Basil Sauce Review: Newman's Own Organic Tomato Basil Sauce Review

Despite not caring for tomato basil sauces all that much I find myself getting them from time to time. I tried a jar of both Naturally Preferred Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce and Muir Glen Organic Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce not too long ago and most recently I got a jar of Newman's Own Organic Tomato Basil Sauce. This was not the first sauce of the Newman's Own brand that I had tried so I was confident that I would enjoy this pasta sauce even though it was a tomato basil sauce, here is what I thought of it.

The Newman's Own Organic Tomato Basil Sauce had a very nice amount of thickness to it. This was something that I liked to find in a pasta sauce since I will use pasta sauces for both pasta dishes as well as on homemade pizzas. This sauce was not as thick as a pizza sauce but it was significantly thicker than the cheaper tomato sauces and pasta sauces that I have gotten in the past. In addition to having a good texture to it the sauce tasted really good. I can honestly say that it was one of the best tomato pasta sauces that I had tried. I wondered what the ingredients were that made this sauce taste so much better than other tomato basil sauces that I had eaten before.

The ingredients of the Newman's Own Organic Tomato Basil Sauce are organic tomato puree that consists of water and organic tomato paste, organic diced tomatoes, organic soybean oil, organic sugar, sea salt, organic onion, organic basil, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic dried garlic, organic black pepper and organic basil flavor. Two things that I noticed in this tomato basil sauce that I didn't recall seeing in other pastas sauces is the soybean oil and the extra virgin olive oil. I don't know if it was these two ingredients that made the sauce taste so good or if it was just the quantity of every thing that is in it. I wondered if the better taste meant better, worse or equal nutrition facts.

The nutrition facts of the Newman's Own Organic Tomato Basil Sauce are based on one half of a cup of the sauce. There are six half cups in the jar and in each of the servings of tomato basil sauce there is a whole ninety calories with forty calories from fat. This seemed a little high to me or at least higher than what I was use to getting. The tomato basil sauce contained a higher amount of sodium than what I was use to seeing with six hundred and fifty milligrams of sodium per serving. The nutrition facts listed that fiber offered less than one gram, protein offered two grams, sugar offered eleven grams and carbohydrates offered twelve grams. In addition the nutrition facts listed in the minerals and vitamins section that calcium offered four percent, iron offered eight percent and vitamin A offered twenty percent. Overall these nutrition facts were not too bad.

As I mentioned before the Newman's Own Organic Tomato Basil Sauce contained three cups worth of pasta sauce. It cost only two dollars and eighty two cents for such a jar which is actually a really good price for a jar of organic pasta sauce that holds this amount. So in addition to liking the taste I also really like the price which makes me think that I will get this pasta sauce again. I would recommend for anyone who likes tomato basil pasta sauce to give this pasta sauce a try. Even if you don't like tomato basil sauce all that much you may be surprised by this one, I know I was.
