Organic toys are made from all natural materials, the wood is not treated with any chemicals, and neither is the cotton. One place I found online that makes organic toys is a place called Pure Home Products, and they are found online at www.purehomeproducts.com. The site has this to say about toys and their products:
"Toys are often made from plastic using phthalates, which have been linked to hormone disruption, liver and kidney damage, asthma and cancer. They also may contain harmful chemical dyes and finishes.
Our assortment of non-toxic, high-quality natural wood and organic soft toys have been carefully selected as healthier alternatives for children. "
Pure Home Products is a family-owned business based in San Francisco, California. Their goal is to provide people with high-quality pure and natural products for their homes and families. They believe that the potentially harmful health effects from the chemicals and toxins in many products concern for them, and they are passionate about finding healthier alternatives for their customers.
They are not alone when I typed in the word "Organic Toys" into yahoo, I got 30,700,00 results. Before this lead paint situation, many people were leaning towards organics, looking to be "green", so it makes sense that toys would be organic. Now that people are hit with this toy recall, organic toys are getting a bigger push.
Pure Home Products, admits that since the recall started, that they have seen their sales double. They do have a nice range of cute items to choose from, but they are also with a nice price tag, for example:
"Lana Organic Donkey
This cute donkey is made of 100% Organic Cotton and is filled with pure wool. It is a handmade European product. The dyes used on the fabric are non-toxic, and the toy meets the European Oekotex-100 standard.
Size: 15 inches tall $54.95.
Maple Landmark Natural Wood Fire Truck
This fire truck is crafted from responsibly harvested hardwoods, making it a truly natural and durable truck! The truck has two removable ladders and firefighters. The designs are done with a laser. No inks or paints are used, and the wood is finished with beeswax.
Size: 9 inches
Ages: 3 and up $39.95"
That does seem a steep price to pay, but if you consider what some toys like a Dora doll for $29.95, that may get your child sick with lead poisening, maybe the price isn't too bad.

Great article! I, like Vonnie, can't understand the higher pricing, though when fewer things are added.
I think the world has fallen to far into this Donna Reed of the 21st century thinking. What ever happened to Lincoln Logs and Saturday morning cartoons that were good?
Great article! Thanks for researching this!
I think it is very important to know what our kids toys are made of. Too bad manufacturers don't put humans above $'s. Great article.
Wow these are expensive. But still very interesting
Wow those are kind of expensive for toys...
I think anything is better than the toxic toys made in China. Hey that's a good name for an article.
Good stuff. Make your own is more affordable.
Great point. I was actually approached this week about creating a line of organic toys for babies...I think it is definately the perfect time to do it.
