Organic Ways to Get Rid of Flies in Your House

Viktoria Carrella
The common house fly is one of the most annoying pests around. It seems that every time a door opens another one flies in. In these environmental friendly times, using pesticides or bug sprays to rid the home of flies is a bad idea. Instead, use natural and organic pest control methods to get rid of flies.

One of the most effective organic pest control methods to get rid of flies is the simple fly paper. Completely chemical free, these strips work by means of a glue like substance that causes the flies to stick to the paper. It is easy to dispose of as well - just throw the used fly paper away.

A stream of cool air in front of doors and windows in a deterrent to flies entering the home. Fans or air conditioning, used as an organic pest control method, can both get rid of flies without the use of any kind of chemicals.

Some plants act as natural deterrents to house flies. Tomato leaves, hazel and marigold are excellent organic pest control plants and all get rid of flies. Either tie small bundles near the door or plant the flowers in bed or pots near doors and windows to get rid of flies entering your home.

The tried and true organic pest control method of fly swatting is a completely natural way to get rid of flies. This method is labor intensive, but guaranteed to get rid of flies.

A final organic pest control method to get rid of flies is a home made flytrap. To make this trap, use a milk container, making sure to clean thoroughly first. Where the container begins to bend toward the cap, near the center of the handle, bore four to six holes. Pour a quarter cup of both syrup and apple cider vinegar into the jug. Fill the milk container to the halfway point with water and replace the cap. Place these fly traps where the fly problem is the worst. The flies are attracted to the sweet smell, fly into the container and die. Make sure to empty the jug as needed. This is an effective organic pest control method to get rid of flies.

Flies can be especially annoying and are often difficult to get out of the house. Try one of these organic pest control methods and see which one works best in your home this summer!
