Organic Yogurt: Traders Point Creamery ( Wildberry ) Review

T. H. Pankey
I didn't know exactly what the descriptor creamline meant in "organic grassfed creamline milk," which is how Traders Point Creamery describes the milk from which it makes it excellent organic yogurt. In fact, my first thought was that Traders Point Creamery had simply found a very attractive word to use in marketing its excellent organic yogurt. How delighted was I to find and be reminded that, in fact, the creamline in "organic grassfed creamline milk" actually describes how the non-homogenized organic milk naturally separates into skim milk and cream. While it separates naturally, whole milk is used in Traders Point Creamery Organic Wildberry Yogurt. Oh, and did I mention it's excellent, excellent yogurt!

The organic creamline milk is from 100% grassfed Brown Swiss cows. What's really attractive about Traders Point Creamery organic milk and yogurt is it comes in old-time glass bottles. Which brings me to another factoid: Traders Point Creamery is the only creamery in the country to provide 100% grassfed whole milk in a bottle.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention some of what Traders Point Creamery says about how attentive they are to the blend of grasses they grow for their Brown Swiss cows and how ensuring their cows are 100% grassfed is wonderfully beneficial to mankind.

Traders Point Creamery makes the very valid point that "cows are ruminates, meaning their digestive systems are designed for a grass diet." I would add, ruminating cows were created to lower their heads to the ground and eat green grasses, not raise them high to eat tall or bent stalks of grains. Dr. Peter Kunz, an owner of Traders Point Creamery, through his studies is convinced of the superior health benefits to man from consuming organic milk and organic yogurt from cows fed on a grass based diet.

However, most milk cows are fed a diet that includes much grain. Even some organic milk cows are fed some grain, albeit organic grain. Grain increases the amount of milk a cow produces, which equals more money to the money-focused dairy farmer. The nutritional value of the milk suffers though.

" Milk from cows pastured on grass has 5 times more healthful CLA ( conjugated linoleic acid ) than milk from cows fed grain," says Traders Point Creamery. Adding, "In fact, independent tests show that Trader Point Creamery grass-fed milk has twice as much CLA as one of the leading national brands of organic milk."

I'm buying the information, organic milk and organic yogurt that Traders Point Creamery is selling, even if at present it's still pricier than even other organic dairy products. Hopefully, the price will come down much sooner than later. This first test purchase of an old time glass bottle of Traders Point Creamery Organic Wildberry Yogurt was a splurge, since it is considerably pricier than other organic yogurts. However, we weren't disappointed whatso-moo-ever with the excellent, excellent taste of this traditional European style organic yogurt. My wife and I easily concluded it was the best yogurt we've ever tasted, and when we get it again it'll be a splurge for its excellent taste and not its higher cost.
