In unrelated pet news, rains have flooded stalls while a number of homeless horses rises in Massachusetts, according to the MSPCA-Angell Animal Care and Adoption Center.

"Following a record-shattering year of horses surrendered to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, additional equines are arriving at an alarming rate as the non-profit absorbs rising costs of care," states a press release. "The MSPCA Equine Center regularly accepts horses from owners struggling to make ends meet."

Duke is a recent arrival, having become homeless less than two weeks ago.

As the number of horses rises, so does the cost of daily care, according to the agency's website, mspca.org.

"The MSPCA is seeking foster and permanent adoptive homes for the horses in their care," according to an email.

Those interested in adoption or foster care are asked to contact the MSCPA Equine Center at 978-687-7453. Press 8, #6113 or email barnstaff@mscpca.org.

In other animal news, theanimalrescuesite.com is urging all citizenes to sign an online petition to end debarking surgeries or convenience devocalization in Massachusetts.

"In many states this process has been rightfully outlawed, but is still legal in Massachusetts," states a mass email. 'Nuisance' barking and other problematic animal vocalizations are rooted in a lack of proper socialization, training, interaction, and exercise, or an owner or breeder who doesn't understand the needs or genetic disposition of their animals."

The notice goes on to state that there are ethical principles of greater importance than the convenience of people and that Massachusetts now has an opportunity to end this unncessary suffering.

To sign the petition supporting H.B. 344, look up http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/campaign.faces?siteId=3&campaign=AnimalDevocalization&ThirdPartyClicks=ETA_022510_AnimalDevocalization_F.
