Organization Sends Out Plea to Help Canine - Dallas, TX

DFW Pug Rescue has issued a critical needs rescue alert for a pug named Sophie who is fighting for her life.

The dog, age 8, only weighed nine pounds when she came to the agency after her owner passed away. She has gone through heartworm treatment, which has been very hard on her little body, according to staff.

You can donate to her medical care by going to http://www.dfwpugs.com/Donate__How_to_Help_.html.

Pongo, another pug the organization is assisting, is still under close observation by vets and was in for his weekly visit to Dr. Gumfory two weeks ago but the results were a bit disappointing. He has learned the pet door despite being blind and takes his rawhide chewing to a new level, reports staff.

To donate to his medical care, see above link.

With over 140 pugs in foster care, the group is in dire need of volunteers.

"DFW Pug Rescue has broken all records for rescue this month," a newsletter states. "We have many pugs on our waiting list and it is critical we get these pugs into our rescue as soon as possible."

Their wish list includes foster families, marketing and media coordinators, volunteers, adoption coordinators, and donations.

"We do not turn away pugs," the announcement goes on to say. "We do not want to close our doors to any pugs under any circumstances."

To apply to be a foster parent, access http://www.dfwpugs.com/Foster_Application.html.

DFW Pug Rescue will have a Meet & Greet July 24, 11-3 at PetSmart Fort Worth, 415 Carroll Street, west of downtown and an Adoption Day Meet & Greet July 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Every Dogs Day Canine Resort & Day Spa, 8795 Preston Trace Boulevard in Frisco. At the latter event you can come out and visit their over 100 pugs in foster care. Another one will take place Aug. 7, 11-3 at Petco Plano, 801 W. 15th Street in Plano, Aug. 14 during the same hours at Petco Hurst, located at 1315 W. Pipeline Road in Hurst, and Aug. 21, same time frame at PetSmart Euless (2800 State Highway 121 in Euless).

Then on Aug. 26 a benefit will be presented for DFW Pug Rescue from 5-8 p.m. at Bahama Bucks Original Shaved Ice Company, 2320 S. Valley Parkway in Lewisville.

In other DFW Pug Rescue news, Puddin Pop, another pug, has a new wheelcart after coming to the group crippled and hardly able to walk after being dumped at a Dallas Animal Shelter. She has severe arthritis in her back legs, in both hips and knees, and she has bad disks in her spine and several deformed vertebrae.

"She is only seven years old and has many years ahead of her to enjoy being treated like a princess," states a press release.
