Organization for the Work at Home Mom or WAHM

Judilynn
Working at home is becoming a more popular option. It is even more popular for those moms who want to be home for their children and still have a job. There is a variety of jobs out there, from writing to customer service. These jobs all have one thing in common. To be a successful work at home mom you have to be organized.

It is probably on everyone's New Years Resolution list. This year I am going to become more organized. For a work at home mom, it is an essential. If you are working for someone else from your home, you want to ensure that everything required of you is done. If you are in business for yourself, you need to make sure all your work for you and your clients is completed. Nothing makes this harder than clutter and things forgotten.

Tips to help work at home moms stay organized are very similar to tips for those who work outside the home. Those who work outside the home do not have to worry about little Johnny's third grade spelling words being mixed up with meeting notes though. Use these tips to help you become an organized work at home mom.

Make your Day-Timer your best friend. Write down all of your appointments, conferences, work hours, and every small detail. Include any commitments for your children as well. After all, you are working from home to be with them. Do not schedule to be working during the little league playoff game.

Keep a notebook and pen by your work phone. Leave it there. Jot down phone numbers you have to look up. Write down notes that you take when you are on the phone. Be sure to date every entry. This can come in handy when you need to look up a number for Mr. Jones who is your new client or little Johnny's Dentist teachers conference.

Try out Google Notebook, Microsoft OneNote or similar software to keep notes while you are working on your computer. Having all your work notes in one place is a great advantage. If you travel with your laptop, Microsoft OneNote is a great tool. It will keep your notes organized by tabs and dates. You can also print emails straight to your OneNote for future reference. Google Notebook will travel with your Google account, no matter what computer you use. Sign into your Google account and accesses any notes you have saved. This is a great way to save notes for uses in other places if you do not have a laptop.

Just as you would in an outside of the home job, be sure to clean off your desk each evening. This may sound like one of those trivial things. You may be lucky enough to have an office and figure you can just close the door. Cleaning off your desk helps in several ways. You ensure that your papers are where they should be every night. You will know exactly where you need to be first thing in the morning. For most people they can start a much more productive day sitting down to a clean desk.

Set a schedule. Not just a simple nine to five schedule, but also a daily, weekly and monthly schedule. Plan your goals and break them down into manageable scheduled chunks of time. This will help you stay more organized and on target for your work at home goals.

Working at home has many wonderful advantages. Staying organized will help you to achieve your work at home goals!
