Organize Your Closet in a Color-Coded Way

You Might Be Surprised at What You Find

Lee Hansen

I admit I was one who thought it quite humorous to have clothes arranged in a color-coded fashion. To me, just getting them in the closet was a major undertaking. But my tune soon changed when I challenged myself to arrange my closet in this way. Even though it was pretty well organized, it still needed some tweaking.

How it all started

Several months ago when I was on this binge to get my house more organized, I began trying to figure out ways to make my closet more user-friendly.

How Did I do it?

I literally took everything out of my closet and placed the items on my bed. There were stacks upon stacks. Clothes that I had forgotten or had lost track of became my new best friends.

The next step was putting similar items together where they could easily be seen. That meant putting skirts with skirts, tops with tops, pants with pants and so on. Shoes were neatly arranged. Items no longer of use to me were donated to the thrift store.

What I Discovered

I soon discovered that I have a tendency to gravitate towards certain color schemes. In my case it is purple. With my wardrobe further separated into similar colors and like items together, I was able to see how much I could mix and match my clothes. New outfits were born in front of my eyes. It also gave me a good reason not to run out to purchase other clothes, thus saving money. I then placed the clothes back in the closet or folded on the shelves. It was more appealing in appearance.

How am I Doing Now?

I am happy to report that I am still following this method of organization. With everything neatly hanging or folded in this color-coded method, I can more easily put outfits together in less time. No longer do I have to rummage through all the hangers and shelves of clothing to see what I have. It's right there in front of me.

Conclusion

So no, I'm no longer laughing at those who organize their closets in a color-coded fashion. I am too busy enjoying the new outfits I have discovered while not purchasing things I don't need.

Is it time for your closet to be organized? Go ahead, I promise not to laugh.

I'm not laughing! I organized mine the same way several years ago and I love it! I'll never again do it any other way. SO easy to find things and to mix and match! Looks great, too!

Great idea. I have my closet organized by items, such as pants, blouses, dresses, but never considered color. I have 2 or 3 basic color schemes. I will now have to do the color scheme too. I just love this.
