Original Fitness Guru Jack LaLanne Dead at Age 96

J.C. JORDAN
Jack LaLanne the original fitness guru died in his California home today, Sunday, January 23, 2011. He was for many of us the first person on television to tout the importance of keeping physically fit. Still as fit as ever Jack LaLanne succumbed to respiratory failure from a bout with pneumonia.

Jack Lalanne ate healthy and exercised daily, right up to his death. Jack once said "the only way to hurt a body is to not use it", "inactivity is a killer and it's never too late to start".

Ever keeping up with the times Jack and his wife, Elaine LaLanne touted the benefits of juicing fruits and vegetables with the JackLaLanne's PowerJuicer . During the 50's and into the 70's Jack had his television show "The Jack LaLanne Show ". He taught viewers exercise's that required no equipment other than a towel and a chair. I can remember his dog Happy was on the show with him. Jack LaLanne also started a chain of fitness studios named after him.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine LaLanne, his two sons, Dan and Jon, and his daughter Yvonne.
