Original, Inexpensive, and Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Alex Parks
Are you one of those people who never seems to be able to get a good Halloween Costume together? Do you absolutely love this spooky holiday, but feel as though you don't have the time or the money to get yourself properly ready for that October 31st bash? If your answer is yes to either or both of these questions you're in luck! I am currently a sophomore in college, and over the last few years of my life I have had great success with my Halloween costumes. The best part; I did not pay more than five dollars on any costume, and was able to find most of my costume from stuff I had lying around the house/dorm-room. So, if you're looking to standout this Halloween, you may find the following few costume tips to be very helpful : )

Something that Suits Your Personality

If people find a certain aspect of your personality to be frightening, hilarious, or peculiar try to make that aspect of yourself stand out in your costume. For me, I tend to express myself mostly through facial expressions. Thus, last year I decided to be a mime. This costume involved buying a bit of face paint, painting my face white, my eyes and lips black, putting on a striped shirt and a pair of black pants, and expressing myself solely through faces for the entire night. If you're a funny person you may want to be a clown! For this costume, you can wear some colorful clothes and paint your nose red! If you're really into rock, be an 80's rock star (get some gel, do a crazy hairstyle, and wear all black). The bottom line is, what makes your costume is not the costume itself; it's the personality you have while you are in costume. So if you want your costume to stand out, pick something that suits your personality and be sure to exaggerate this aspect of your personality all night long.

Last Minute is Always the Best

You should never be thinking about your Halloween Costume any sooner than October 31st (unless of course you're going to a party the weekend before). Bottom line; don't spend more than a day thinking about it. This will help you to not go toooooo overboard with the physical aspect of you're costume. You won't have time to go to 80 different costume shops and spend money on a costume that you will regret spending half of your student wages on the next day. All you will have time to do is think of something that can be done quickly and efficiently, which the only necessary shopping being a quick trip to your local CVS/Walgreens. Trust me, procrastination will force you to think of something far more original and entertaining than any costume shop will have to offer.

Well, that's about it! I hope you've found my advice helpful. If you read this article and have any pics from a Halloween Party, I'd love to see them : )
