The Orion Oaks county dog park is located in Lake Orion Michigan, at 2301 Clarkston Road, and is a must see place for any dog owners that like to socialize with their pets. It is a very large and extremely well maintained Oakland County park. Orion Oaks Park has all the amenities necessary for a very pleasant time for you and your dog. Information from the Oakland County Parks and Recreation website says the Orion Oaks dog park has over 900 acres available for you and your pet, plus several miles of hiking trails to explore, as well as a 14 acre large fenced area to let all the dogs run loose and play at the same time. There is also a similar fenced area that only allows dogs under 15 pounds. All of the dog runs are well groomed lawns, and rotating the location of the runs each month keeps the park eco-friendly. Plenty of shaded picnic tables give you a place to relax while your pet wanders around. These fenced areas are conveniently double gated with a 6 foot space between the gates that allows for easy leashing and unleashing. There are cold drinking fountains, and fresh tap water for the dogs is also available. Clean restrooms are on site, and pet waste bags are also available at various locations in this park.

The hiking trails go all over, through fields and even around the lake. While you are walking your dog on the trails you are required to keep your pet leashed. There are also plenty of maps posted all along the trails to let you know where you are located at any given time inside the park. If you walk the trails quietly in the morning or early evening you may see deer, fox, and other wildlife. The Orion Oaks Dog Park, Lake Orion, Michigan has three different entrances with parking areas to make it easy to access the park from whichever direction you are arriving.

There is also a very nice dock on the lake that has ramps going into the lake, providing easy access for the dogs to get in and out of the water. Labradors, retrievers, and all the other water loving dogs like this part of the park. A lot of folks bring their pet's favorite water toy to throw out into the lake for their dog to swim out and retrieve . This makes for a very refreshing way for the pets to cool off after running around with all the other dogs, or even after a nice long hike. A very convenient fresh water hose is available on the way out if you want to rinse the lake water off of your pet.

According to this Oakland County Parks and Recreation Department website information, Orion Oaks Dog Park Park was named in 2008 the "Best Dog Park" in the Michigan Tails Pet Magazine's Readers' Choice Awards. In my opinion, this park gets a solid 10 out of 10 rating. Another perk here is all the pleasant conversations I have with the other animal lovers. Pet people are some of the nicest people around to chat with, and this makes my visits even more enjoyable. For all of you pet conscious people out there, do yourself and your dog a favor and try this park. Allow yourself ample time, because 900 acres requires a lot of looking around.
