You will have to pay a cover charge of $10 and a beer will cost you $4 per bottle. That is not the best deal for a beer, but if you get there for happy hour, you can get drinks for $1 apiece. If you get there after happy hour, then you can still save money on beer by getting a Bud bucket for $18.
If you don't know anything about this place, then let me fill you in. This is not a bar that is known for hosting big name bands, or even small name bands. They have their own group of performers that do a sensational job with their dueling pianos . . . and they can actually sing pretty good, too. They take all kinds of song requests. Most of the songs they play are songs you know by heart, and never get sick of hearing. Several of the patrons end up singing along as each song is played. They will play anything from Bruce Springsteen, to Michael Jackson, to Hank Williams, Jr. You name it and they'll probably play it.
Not only do you get to sing along, but you can also take part in an occasional conga line around the bar, which ends up with a free shot sprayed into your mouth as you conga past the stage. They also have a wheel that you can get up on stage and spin. The wheel has a bunch of crazy things listed on it like "Moon the Crowd," Give a Lap Dance," "Sing a Solo," "Take an Ice Bath" and various other entertaining tasks. You have to do whatever the wheel says! No matter how what the wheel stops at, the volunteers are always willing. The atmosphere in this place is so fun and festive that nobody wants to say no to anything!
After reading what has been written so far, you can figure out why I say this place is affordable. Personally, I always find myself downing a lot of beers when at a bar with music, but honestly, I didn't even care about drinking that much when I was there. You will get so caught up in the singing and other antics at this establishment that you may actually find yourself not even caring about buying more beers! You'll have so much fun singing and dancing and watching everybody else, that ordering another beer won't even be your main concern.
Another great thing about this place is that it is within walking distance to a Denny's restaurant. So, if you had a little too much to drink, then just walk right over to Denny's and have yourself some pancakes to sober yourself up. Howl at the Moon is also in close proximity to Universal Studios and Wet'N Wild, so it could be a great place to go after spending a day at a park.
The only negative thing I could say about this bar is that the bathroom attendants were extremely pushy. After I was done taking care of my business at the urinal, I walked toward the sink, at which time this extremely pushy attendant attempted to spray some soap on my hand. He missed my hand. He ended up spraying the soap on the back of my shirt. Come on, people! Let a man wash his own hands!
Other than that unfortunate restroom incident, I had a great experience and highly recommend it to anyone visiting that area. If you love great music, along with some fun crowd participation, then this place is a MUST!
