Orlando Magic Update New Uniforms

...With Trifling Results

The Orlando Magic have (again) redesigned their new uniforms (again) as a commemoration of the team's now-20th season in the National Basketball Association. Paying homage to the uniforms of the past, the Magic have taken to pinstripes, an new neckline and updated word scripts and jersey cuts for a reimagined look.

Rounded letters and numbers are subtle marks for the uniforms and multi-spaced pinstripes are unlike any other uniform in the league. Electric blue, black, white and silver remain, and actually the jerseys themselves look very close to the previous season's duds. Unfortunately, as a matter of opinion, the Magic didn't do enough to update the look.

For one, the new neckline of the jersey is less original, removing the star emblem at the top of the chest from the previous season in favor of a cliche quasi-V-neck collar. The font for the numbers and words are not much of a departure from 2007-'08, either, with slightly rounded serifs and smaller sizes. There is an addition of side insets on the side of the jerseys and shorts, but this doesn't add the uniform in any way aesthetically and doubtfully in performance. The pinstripes are a welcome return, and while the uniforms on the whole are not terrible, they aren't really a true upgrade.

It is unfortunate that the Orlando Magic did not make a more drastic return to their original uniforms which remain as some of the most unique traditional jerseys in the history of the NBA. But, while the update was subtle, it still improves upon the previous season's uniforms and helps to bring more excitement into the Orlando Magic look.
