Athletes, Artists and Hoteliers Raise Funds for Haiti Relief Effort

Almost 2,900 evacuees from Haiti have safely made their way to the Orlando Sanford International Airport in the wake of the second earthquake in the region, and several local Orlando organizations have stepped up their relief efforts. Haiti relief efforts in Orlando range from fundraising events coordinated by community members, Haiti relief drives sponsored by the hospitality industry and concerts to benefit Haiti earthquake victims.

American Red Cross Mid-Florida Increases Haiti Relief Efforts
The American Red Cross Mid-Florida Region is sending mental health volunteers to Orlando airports to help evacuees cope with the recent events as they arrive. As hundreds of families and individuals arrive from the devastation, the help and support of professional mental health counselors may help them adjust to the changes ahead.

University of Central Florida Athletes Spearhead Haiti Relief Drive
UCF's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will also be showing their support for Haiti relief efforts by launching a series of charitable events around the two home basketball games on the schedule this week. UCF athletes are already collecting non-perishable food items, medical supplies and donations prior to the women's and men's basketball games, and will be sending them directly to the Clean the World Foundation and Harvest Time International.

Central Florida Artists Help Raise Funds for Haiti Earthquake Victims
Central Florida artists including Mike Dunn and the Kings of New England, Lauris Vidal, Christian Wilson, Thomas Wynn and Gasoline Heart's Louise DeFabrizio are hosting a Haiti benefit concert on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at The Social (54 North Orange Avenue, Orlando) to raise money for Doctors without Borders. Doors open at 5 p.m. and tickets are $10 at the door. More information about this Haiti relief event can be found here.

Rosen Hotels and Resorts of Orlando Help with Haiti Relief Effort
Rosen Hotels and Resorts, hotel operator of the Shingle Creek Golf Club and several Rosen Hotel properties around the city, has teamed up with Senator Bill Nelson's Office and local Haitian community leaders to send emergency relief funds and supplies to the citizens of Haiti. The Harris Rosen Foundation is collecting and delivering items such as medical supplies, First Aid kits, towels, blankets and bug spray thorugh its own Task Force. Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association Increase Haiti Relief Efforts
The Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association completed a successful Haiti relief drive on Monday, January 18, collecting over 50,000 bottles of water, medical items, toiletries and non-perishable food for Haiti earthquake victims. All items were delivered directly to Harvest Time International in Sanford for immediate shipment.
