Orlando Sport and Social Club: Single People and Competitive Sports!

Brian Munger
If you are single and athletic and live in the Orlando, Florida, area, then you may want to check out the Orlando Sport and Social Club. Majority of the people in this club are single and most of them are between the ages of 23 and 35. If you sign up for one of their leagues, there is a very good chance that you'll meet single people of the opposite sex, as every single league (with the exception of one of their flag football leagues) is a co-ed league.

The Orlando Sport and Social Club currently offers three soccer leagues, five flag football leagues, four softball leagues, and one volleyball league. Each league has one game per week. The average season contains seven regular season games. At the end of the season, every team is put into a single elimination tournament bracket, so even if your team is worse than the Bad News Bears, you still have a chance of making the championship game! There are soccer leagues on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights. The flag football leagues are played on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. In addition, there is a men-only flag football league on Saturday. The softball leagues are played on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The volleyball league is played on Thursday nights. All of the games usually start between 6 PM and 9 PM. In order to get all of the games played each night, they usually have a one hour time limit for each game.

Each league has four seasons, so, with the exception of a break during the winter holidays, you are basically playing non-stop throughout the entire year if you sign up for all four seasons.

The average fee per team is around $530 per season, so the average price per person will be around $50, pending on many other people on your team. This is a pretty steep fee compared to other leagues in the area, but if you are single, then paying the extra money might be worth it if you are looking to join a league to find some dates! I actually know quite a few couples who have met through the Orlando Sport and Social Club who are now married and/or have been dating exclusively for an extended period of time.

In addition, they offer social nights, such as bar crawls and happy hour meet-ups in downtown Orlando. On average, they have around 10 socials per year. This is a great way to bond with your teammates and/or meet other people from other teams and leagues. After the events are over, you can check out their website on Monday or Tuesday morning, as they usually post several pictures from each event . . . so make sure you don't do anything too crazy in front of the cameras, otherwise, SEVERAL people are going to see it! Although, if you crave crazy attention, then go right ahead and stuff that beer bottle up your nose when the man with the camera comes your way.

If you don't know enough people to start your own team, then you can simply go onto their website and post a note on their message board. There are always at least a couple teams scouting the message boards in need of an extra guy or girl for their team. If you don't get picked up by any teams, then you can post a message saying "Trying to Start a Team," and you will be sure to get a number of responses from people just like you, who are desperately attempting to find a team to play with.

So join this club and do two things you thoroughly enjoy - playing sports and meeting singles!
