Ortega Henderson performed under the name Tega, and was affiliated with the rapper Nelly and the rap group St. Lunatics. Ortega Henderson was working on an album with his group Da Camp at the time of his death.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Ortega Henderson had a few brushes with the law. Charges against him include weapons charges and felony vehicle tampering.
"He got mixed up in the streets, but he was so talented, we thought we could pull him out of it," said Kyjuan Cleveland, a founding member of the rap group St. Lunatics, to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He was on the right path for a minute, but times are hard and he started hanging around the wrong people."
Ortega Henderson becomes the second rapper to have been murdered in recent weeks. Just last month, rapper Dolla, whose real name was Roderick Anthony Burton II, was gunned down at the Beverly Center shopping mall in Los Angeles, California.
Dolla, who was just 21-years-old, was working on his debut album, "Another Day, Another Dolla," before he was murdered. The album was to be released this summer.
Aubrey Louis Berry, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was arrested and charged with the murder of Dolla. He was apprehended by police at the Los Angeles International Airport about two hours after the fatal shooting of Dolla.
Unfortunately, the list of murdered rappers is rather long. In fact, AskMen.com put together a top 10 list of murdered rappers. It includes (from 10 to 1) Freaky Tah, Soulja Slim, Mac Dre, Yaki Kadafi, Scott La Rock, Proof, Big L, Jam Master Jay, The Notorious B.I.G and 2Pac.
It really boggles the mind when you stop and think about how many rappers have met an untimely and violent death.
Something is definitely wrong with this picture.

Post a CommentUnfortunately, violence begets violence and so much rap is about violence. I wish that these artists good find more positive messages to send. How sad!
I think that its sad when anyone, rapper status or not, gets tangled up in such a mess that they would be in such a position (directly or indirectly) to have death by murder (intentionally, that is) anything more than a rare case scenario.
