A Walk Through the History of May Day

May 1, also called May Day, has some interesting events in history. At first glance the history of May Day seems to be completely full of gloom and doom. After glancing a second time we do find some life giving and even amusing events take place on May Day. Journey with me through time as we highlight interesting events that took place on May Day. Beware as May Day approaches because who knows what "May" happen next!

We will begin our walk through history with what I believe is the most bizarre and coincidental event on May Day.

Osama Bin Laden and Adolf Hitler Both Killed and Announced Dead on May Day

Adolf Hitler was pronounced dead on May 1, 1945. Osama Bin Laden was pronounced dead 66 years later on May 1, 2011. Osama Bin Laden and Adolf Hitler were two men who never met yet both were known for their evil. The fact that Osama Bin Laden and Adolf Hitler share a murderous death on the same day is ironic. Not only is it ironic that both men died on the same day but also that they were both murdered. There is speculation that Adolf Hitler and his wife committed suicide.

More Gloom and Coincidence On May Day

May Day, 1931: New York's Empire State Building officially opens. This is an exciting yet also bizarre fact. Osama Bin Laden is responsible for the 911 attacks. On 911 airplanes collided into the New York World Trade Center. New York's World Trade Center and Empire State Building are only 3 miles from one another. Now we have three coincidences, Osama Bin Laden and Adolf Hitler both being pronounced dead on the same day which also happens to be the day New York's Empire State Building opened.

May Day, 1961: May 1, 1961 marks the first United States airline hijacking. It's getting more bizarre! Now we have Osama Bin Laden and Adolf Hitler both dead on May Day which is the same day the New York Empire State Building opened which is near the World Trade Center. Adding to these events on May Day is the first United States airline hijacking in history. May Day makes for some strange coincidences!

Weddings on May Day That Both End in Divorce

Elvis Presley and Pricilla Beaulieu were married on May 1, 1967. In 1972 Elvis and Pricilla seperated with their divorce being final in 1973.

On May 1, 1991 Robert Duvall and Sharon Brophy are married. Sharon Brophy was Robert Duvall's second of four wives. Duvall and Brophy divorced in 1996.

May Day, 1957: Larry King's first radio broadcast aired on May 1, 1957 and on May 1, 2011 CNN aired the first Larry King special . Larry King's special was about Alzheimer Disease.

May Day, 1962: The first KMART opens in Garden City, Michigan.

May Day, 1989: MGM® studio opens to the public at Walt Disney World in Florida. MGM is now called Hollywood Studios and is well known for The Tower of Terror and Rockin Rollercoaster® Starring Aerosmith.

May Day is an interesting day. May Day is fast approaching and who knows what this mysterious day will bring. Whatever new events happen on May Day will soon be history.
