The signature face of anti-American, anti-West, Osama bin Laden, is dead, and they have the body with DNA evidence to prove it. We know what this means to the people of the United States, but as of May 1, 2011, it means celebration for some and sorrow for others. It's believed that he was killed in Afghanistan. He was staying in a mansion outside of Islamabad, Pakistan, the capital of Pakistan, along with members of his family. While it was believed that Bin Laden was hiding in caves, this puts a different slant on things.
The government of Pakistan, according to President Obama, worked in conjunction with the United States in order to achieve this outcome. The whereabouts of bin Laden has been a thorn in Pakistan's side, because they didn't know that he was hiding in a place that is civilized, well kept and not in the remote hills of Pakistan outer areas.
As always, President Obama's speech was carefully worded to inspire the American people making the historic announcement. He gave a few details of what happened, talking about a firefight, and the fact that there were no casualties in this operation. Obama's statement was brief, uplifting and he ended by asking the nation to come together in peace as we continue to fight against terrorism.
Obama's message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.
Bin Laden has been the face of terrorism. Now that the al Qaeda mastermind is gone, it's anybody's guess as to who will lead the terrorist organization. However, this does not mean that the infamous terrorist organization is finished. Born in 1957, bin Laden, son of Saudi Arabia's wealthiest construction magnate was a typical young man whose intense religious commitment began to emerge as he grew fascinated with the ancient mosques of Medina and Mecca, which his family's company helped to rebuild.
U.S. Military and the intelligence sources are taking precautions against retaliation. Military and other American installations have been placed on high alert against possible problems. This message is going on around the world via social networking.
On the Internet via tweets, people are chanting and cheering. Outside the White House, visitors can be heard cheering "USA, USA" and more cheering. It's dark outside the White House, but jubilation can be heard. Family members of those who were killed on 9/11 in New York and Pennsylvania are beginning to come in that is both celebratory and relieved.
People continue to gather outside the North Gate of the White House singing patriotic songs as news of the terrorist leader spreads. The crowd that started at about 40 people have now swelled to 100s of people, and it's expected to expand into the thousands. People are says it's the best day ever in the United States.
