Oscar 2010 Fashion - Oh the Dresses

Which Stars Shined and Which Ones Fizzled on the Red Carpet

Joyce Carole
It was Hollywood's most glamorous night as the biggest stars showed off their fashion sense (or lack thereof) on the red carpet. While much of America spent their time speculating about which celebrities would bring home the Oscar gold, there were many others of us who more concerned with who would be awarded honorary Oscars for best dress and of course who would get the dubious honor of being highlighted for the worst in Oscar fashion.

Celebrities who chose Oscar gowns that shined

Many stars chose to shine like the coveted Oscar statuette in glittering dresses of silver or gold. Celebrities who chose to wear metallic gowns to the 2010 Oscars included: Best actress winner, Sandra Bullock who dazzled in a silver column gown by Marchessa. Kate Winslet, channeled Hollywood glamour in a silver strapless gown. She looked incredible with her hair worn parted on the side and cascading down her back in soft waves. Cameron Diaz chose to shine at the 2010 Oscars in a gold strapless dress by Oscar De La Renta. She too wore her long hair in a side part and cascading waves.

Some stars chose to dazzle in color at the 2010 Oscars

Oscar winner Mo'Nique chose a flattering gown in royal blue. Hollywood newcomer and best actress nominee, Gabourey Sidibe made an excellent choice with a stunning navy gown by Marchessa. Penelope Cruz looked glamorous in a red strapless, pleated Donna Karan couture gown. Best supporting actress Vera Farmiga stepped out in a strapless fuchsia gown with ridiculous, over-the-top cascading ruffles.

Many stars chose to keep it sweet with pastel gowns at the 2010 Oscars

Perhaps it was a yearning for springtime that had many stars choosing Oscar gowns in soft pastels. Demi Moore looked incredible in a strapless, ruffled gown of soft peach while Zoe Saldana fizzled in a lilac gown with a ruffled, flamenco hem in multiple shades of purple. Jennifer Lopez missed with her pale pink strapless column dress, which featured a distracting side pouf. There was just too much fabric in the dress. Anna Kendrick, however, looked absolutely enchanting in a soft pink chiffon gown. The star wore her hair in a romantic up-do. Her lovely dress had a perfect split which allowed us to see her gorgeous open-toe platform sandals. I am still debating on whether I liked Sarah Jessica Parker's choice of a loosely flowing yellow vintage Chanel. The color was pretty and Parker can pull off most fashions successfully, but I am not sure if this was this Oscar gown was her best choice.

Who kept it simple at the 2010 Oscars with basic black

Tina Fey, recovering from her disastrous Golden Globe dress choice, looked much improved in a black sequined dress by Michael Kors. Carey Mulligan, sporting a flattering blonde pixy cut, chose an unusual black strapless gown by Prada. I think she missed with this black dress. Faith Hill wore a black lace gown with an ultra high split, showing that she may have the worst fashion sense in Hollywood. Probably not, but her dress choice for the 2010 Oscar's left much to be desired.

Best and Worst 2010 Oscar Dresses

Best dresses include Sandra Bullock's silver Marchessa gown and Anna Kendrick's lovely soft pink gown. My best dress of the night award goes to Rachel McAdams who looked amazing in an Oscar gown of pink, blue and green water colors. Her dress was beautiful and truly stood out in the sea of solid colored Oscar gowns.

As far as Oscar disasters, there was not a single star who wore a dress that made you scream, "What in the world was she thinking". There were however, some not-so-good choices. I did not like singers Faith Hill's black gown and Miley Cyrus's gold bustier Oscar gowns. I thought Vera Farmiga's fuchsia ruffled dress was a bad choice. In my opinion Sigourney Weaver looked matronly in her red one-shouldered gown, which featured a black belt around the waist. My pick for the worst gown of the evening would go to Zoe Saldana for her purple dress. The ruffled hem made her look like a Flamenco dancer.

Hit or miss the Oscars are always glamorous and the 2010 Oscars were no exception.

:) Just showing page love. Kinda under a tornado warning right now so I'm going back to where I've been in the past.

Great analysis. There was just something about Vera's gown that kept drawing your eye back in. I actually loved it!
