Oscar De La Hoya had the crushing defeat against Manny Pacquiao last month in their championship matchup. He couldn't be spotted during the endorsement of Saturday's huge welterweight fight for the title in Los Angeles between friend and business partner Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley that pulled in 20,850 fans, a record for the Staples Center.

There were various speculations relating to why De La Hoya did not prefer to come. Some said that he didn't want to be grilled by the reporters who covered of the boxing event and some said that it was his desire to neglect being a part of something where he would get booed by the crowd which consisted of heavy Mexican American and Mexican people.

HBO on Saturday telecasted a show in which Larry Merchant said that De La Hoya settled a $5 million deal just to make an appearance at the MMA event Affliction. Oscar De La Hoya was paid $5 million to be personally committed in the promotion of the mixed martial arts show. This was revealed by Larry Merchant. The who payroll announced for the Affliction card was 3.3 million US dollars so this became huge news in the industry of MMA. The attendance was 8,497 for $1,523,760.

If they paid Oscar De La Hoya $5 million to show up at Affliction, then that means that not only did the big boxer's participating in his very first show in MMA make $1.7 million more than all fighters on the card combined, but Affliction also was in the hole nearly 7 million US dollars without showing expenses, before summing the total pay-per-view revenue. They have however, insisted that there was no payment made.

Merchant says that he asked Richard where Oscar De La Hoya would come for his first appearance publicly after the Pacquiao fight. He made this inquiry prior to the fight during the news conference. The answer that Richard gave was that Oscar was not going to appear at that event because he had already got a sponsorship worth $5 million from a T-shirt company and it was because of his personal commitment. Schaefer and Tom Atencio, the vice president of Affliction entertainment denied them.

Affliction manufactures T-shirts which are very popular among the fans, and they said that they would be promoting it with the partnership of Golden Boy. Schaefer says that the Golden Boy will help with covering the expenses including the fighters' pay and the event marketing. Golden Boy will be taking care of the operational area of things and license arrangement as Affliction Entertainment does not have the license for promotion. Golden Boy confirmed that Oscar De La Hoya would be available to help with marketing and event promotion.

Oscar did not attend a boxing event that was organized by his very own company. He sent Richard Schaefer to the show. Oscar De La Hoya appeared at the Affliction Entertainment's event and helped them with promotion and the marketing. Atencio says that Oscar did not get any money from Affliction and he appeared in their show just to keep his word. He honored them with his presence. Indeed he missed good fight says Atencio.
