Oscar Winners and Their Zodiac Signs

Valerie Ferrari
How do the astrological stars affect our Hollywood stars? When you take a look at the zodiac signs of Oscar winners for Best Actor and Best Actress over the last 10 years, you may indeed wonder if being born under certain zodiac signs might predestine one for an acceptance speech at the Academy Awards.

Out of 20 best actors and actresses from the years 2000 to 2009, there have been no winners born under three Zodiac signs: Aquarius, Pisces or Virgo. Not a single water-bearer, fish or virgin!

Scorpio, Julia Roberts started out the decade with a win for "Erin Brockovich" (2000). Capricorn, Denzel Washington picked up a Best Actor trophy in 2001 for "Training Day." Nicole Kidman scored one for Gemini for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in "The Hours" (2002). Forest Whitaker took home the Best Actor award in 2006 as "The Last King of Scotland." He is a Cancer or Moon Child, as some born under the sign prefer. We've got one win for Taurus, the sign of the bull: Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood" (2007). That accounts for 5 Oscars.

Libra, the scales, is one of the zodiac signs that gave us two best actors in the last 10 years. The Libra winners are really rather recent, with Marion Cotillard winning in 2007 for "La Vie en Rose" and Kate Winslet, the following year for her performance in "The Reader." Jamie Foxx ("Ray" 2004) and Jeff Bridges ("Crazy Heart" 2009) are both Sagittarians. Now we're up to 9 winners.

Three Oscar winners were born under the sign of Aries. Russell Crowe won his Oscar for "Gladiator" (2000); Adrien Brody for "The Pianist" (2002); and Reese Witherspoon for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "I Walk the Line" (2005).

That's a total of 12 out of 20 and that leaves 8 Oscar wins under the sign of Leo the Lion. These awards were collected by 7 stars since Sean Penn won twice in the last 10 years for his performance as Jimmy Markum in "Mystic River" (2003) and as Harvey Milk in "Milk" (2008).

Halle Berry won in 2001 for "Monster's Ball." Charlize Theron ("Monster") made it a double Leo win in 2003 for her performance as serial killer, Aileen Wuornos. The Leos continued to clean up in the next 3 years with wins by Hilary Swank in "Million Dollar Baby" (2004); Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Capote" (2005); and Helen Mirren as "The Queen" (2006). Our last Leo winner was Sandra Bullock for "The Blind Side" (2009).

It sure looks like the Leos have got it going on with all these Best Actor and Actress wins in the last 10 years. In the same time period for Best Supporting Acting Awards, however, Libra came in with 4 winners, more than any other sign.

That is nice to know. I am an Aries, the Ram, a fire sign. Fire and water really don't mix. I was married to an Aquarius, but divorced a short time later.
