OSU Buckeye Traditions!!

Well, we all know that college traditions are what keep all hard core college kids focused right? That is no different at The Ohio State University. When I first moved to Ohio I never knew that being a OSU Fan was so serious. Well I have been here for 9 years and I have found that you are one of two things when you live in Columbus, Ohio, either a Buckeye Fan or Nothing. Today is the all time rival game, Ohio State vs Michigan!!

I have never lived in a big college football city until here. They take it into overtime in "Buckeye City" though. Every year before this big rival game, everyone that is a hard core OSU fan or student at The Ohio State University goes down to Mirror Lake on OSU Campus to take a swim. Sounds harmless right? Well, keep in mind we are in Ohio and it is mid-November. So its freezing cold!! I hear about it every year, but I never believed it. Well this year, I actually went down to see what all the commotion was about. Its crazy down there. Students, Alum, Faculty and many more people go down to the Lake and Jump In!! Like its hot outside or something! I didn't stay too long, however, it was nice to see a huge campus tradition play out. It shows the dedication that the fans & students have for their team. Everyone is chanting "O-H... I-O!!!" and having a good ole' time! One of my co-workers actually dived in! He was late to work the next day! It makes you wonder what other schools do for rival games or traditional things that they do to get the fans and school amped up to be a part of the spirit.

I can tell you one thing, I wont be down there next year... wait.. who am I kidding? I just might show up!! I am not even a buckeye fan but I am a big supporter of people that support what they believe in. Trust me, all of those people believe in that team. I just won't be one that is in the lake!
