The Repair line includes Climate Control Hair Gel, for those living in humid climates, Botanical Boost, a light spray-on conditioner and curl refresher, Water Works Shampoo, for hard-water build-up, Summer Shield Beach Spray, a spray-on conditioner with SPF, and Ouidad's Deep Treatment to "feed" and strengthen hair. The Finish line includes Ouidad's Styling Mist, a light finishing spray, Clear Control, a residue-free pomade to soften hair, and Shine Glaze Serum, a silicone-free shine serum which increases shine and reduces frizz while still allowing hair to breathe.
The foundation of Ouidad's line is the Deep Treatment. This treatment is the foundation for healthy hair and will bring your hair out to its fullest potential. By using heat and humidity to open up the hair to receive moisture, protein, and nutrients, hair will be less frizzy and less prone to split ends. Curly hair needs to be "fed" twice a month for the first few months after which a once a month feeding will be enough to maintain the hair's health. However, an extra feeding is advised before hair coloring or highlighting to lessen damage potential and increase color saturation. The conditioning treatment should also be allowed to work for at least 48 hours before shampooing so that it can continue to penetrate the hair shaft and allow for optimum absorption. If you do choose to color, remember to wait two weeks after coloring to do a treatment since the heat involved in the treatment can cause the color to seep.
When applying Ouidad's products, remember that a little goes a long way. Although these products may seem more expensive then their drugstore counterparts, they are highly concentrated and most users need only a nickel-sized amount of gel per application. Furthermore, the shampoos and conditioners are not meant to be used daily unless your hair is especially oily. For most users, shampooing and conditioning from every other day for those with loose curls, to once a week for fine, kinky curls is enough to maintain clean and healthy hair.
To start your way towards the hair of your dreams, go to Ouidad's website and create a "Curl Profile." After answering a few questions related to your hair's curl type and health, Ouidad will guide you towards products that will work best for your individual needs. Ouidad will also take weather conditions and the quality of your water supply into account.
By separating curly heads into more distinct categories, Ouidad can create products that are more personalized and effective. For more information please visit Ouidad's website at www.ouidad.com. Extra styling tips can be found in Ouidad's book Curl Talk.
