Ouija Boards: Harmless Child's Play?

Do You Think This Game is Innocent or Should Be Avoided?

Matthew Schieltz
The famous Ouija Board was created in the nineteenth century and it has gained popularity through the years ever since then. People have used the Ouija Board to communicate with people who have passed away and have used it to answer questions throughout the years. Receiving winning lottery numbers and asking questions about the future are only a couple examples of some of the frequent stories that you'll hear when you ask someone if they have ever used a Ouija Board and if they answer yes. However, the Ouija Board is sold in toy stores all throughout the world. Whether it is Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, or another toy store, you'll be able to find the Ouija Board, which is now marketing by the Parker Brothers, on shelves across the country throughout the United States.

Is the Ouija Board dangerous?

There are many questions associated with the Ouija Board, though. Can people really conjure up the dead and receive answers to their questions that they pose to this "talking board"? Or does the power of the Ouija Board lie within the users themselves? Wherever the power comes from, however, there have been many strange stories of the Ouija Board ever since its inception. For example, there have been many accounts of the Ouija Board that keeps popping up every time that one tries to throw it out. Furthermore, people have reportedly been possessed from the power of the dead that are conjured up by the Ouija Board and some people have even been killed.

Protecting your children from the dangers of the Game

Many of those strange accounts from the use of the Ouija Board raises the very question about whether or not the Ouija Board should be allowed to be sold throughout common toy stores all throughout the country. If they're still allowed, though, should the there be an age limit on purchasing the game? True, many parents should be responsible enough to know whether or not that they should let their own kids be allowed around the Ouija Board, but if that reasoning or responsibility fails, are there any real dangers from them using the Ouija Board. The evidence and personal accounts seem to point towards real and present danger hidden within the Ouija Board, so maybe toy stores should, indeed, place an age limit on the game that totes the phrase, "It's only a game, isn't it?"

I, myself, have never dealt with or played with a Ouija Board, so am not speaking from personal experience. However, plenty of eye-witness accounts have been reported about the Ouija Board and many people know not to even start playing with them. Many people who have played with them, however, know the true risk that is associated with playing with them. Furthermore, many religions speak out against them and consider them a form of necromancy. No matter what the reason for playing or not playing the game, however, each person should consider for themselves whether or not the Ouija Board will be a real danger. Speaking with those who have already tried to play with the Ouija Board can be one positive way in which you can find out more accurate information. But taking precautions before making any definitive choices about the Ouija Board is absolutely necessary in preventing something terrible or some unwanted situation.

First of all, I do believe spirits are real; however, I know for a fact, the Ouija is a myth. It was never created to talk to the dead. It was created as a parlor game, then the public and religions began creating their own myths because of a spiritual guy who wrote a book. The Ouija is a toy. I have used them for 20 years and nothing has ever happened. When one plays with a Ouija, the planchette does not move by itself - ever.

me & my friend both started playing the ouija board. we both learned that if the spirit goes over the aplphabet and letters without stopping; it means you unleashed it into reality. me & my friend thought it was a joke untill we heard banging in our rooms; our doors closing by themselves; footsteps coming up the stairs when every1 is sleeping, ringing, and feeling like theres something there with us. we barley got any sleep for a week because we were so terrified. this is not a joke
