Our Best Halloween Costume Ever: Tennis Players and Tennis Ball

Emily Harmon
My husband and I love Halloween. We have always enjoyed the holiday so much and attend a huge Halloween costume party each year. Last year was the first year that we had to incorporate our new son into our normally couple Halloween costumes. Before our son was even born we new what we were going to dress as: tennis players, with our son as the tennis ball.

My husband constructed a tennis ball costume from lime green felt. He used a real tennis ball as a pattern and blew up the dimensions to the appropriate size for our 3 ½ month old. We used some white cording for the stripes on the ball. We dressed our son in a lime green onsie and hot glued stripes to it as well so he wouldn't have to wear the huge tennis ball costume the entire night at the Halloween party.

Our own costumes were secondary to the tennis ball, but we visited thrift and outlet stores and found tennis whites to wear. My husband wore white shorts with a white polo shirt and I had white skirt and white polo shirt. We each wore white headbands and wrist bands and carried tennis rackets. Our Halloween tennis player costumes looked surprisingly authentic, considering we only spend about $20 for the entire outfits.

Thanks to our creativity and lack of buying a simple store-bought costume, we won first prize for our family costume at the Halloween party. We aren't revealing our costumes for this year's Halloween party just yet, but be certain that our creative juices are flowing once again!
