Our Bodies, Our Temples

Nico Riley
We've all heard that our bodies are our temples. Growing up I'd hear women telling young girls to treat their bodies like a temple, meaning she shouldn't let the guys invade her temple so to speak. However, I also see another meaning of our bodies being temples aside from not being promiscuous. Good health and nutrition should also be taken into consideration when viewing your body as a temple. And you should want to build up your temple to keep it standing strong rather than abandon it and leave it in need of some serious home repair.

Most of realize that exercise and healthy eating has a significant impact on our health. However, many of us don't completely connect the two in order to be as fit and healthy as we can. For some of us it's poor eating habits, others may be too busy to go to the gym. Maybe you don't mind the few extra pounds you put on or perhaps you don't desire to have a six pack abs. But being fit is not just about having a good physique; it also has an impact on our emotional state.

The truth of the matter is, when you look good you feel good. That can also be reversed to say when you feel good you look good. If you're feeling sluggish and tired, you probably won't make much of an effort to look your best. However, when you're happy and feeling upbeat, you're likely to express that inward happiness on the outside. Maybe you'll go get your hair and nails done or treat yourself to a day at the spa. Whatever it is you choose to do all goes back to caring for your temple.

Speaking as a person who is very much interested in fitness, I have to force myself to exercise. Although I am not overweight, I understand that physical activity id beneficial to everyone and I like to stay toned and feeling energetic. If I go awhile without exercise, I notice the difference in my demeanor. I'm not as energetic and I feel more weak than usual. But when I force myself to exercise, even if it's for only 30 minutes a day, I feel better about myself physically and emotionally. Exercise doesn't have to be working out at the gym or sweating to a Billy Blanks Tae Bo video, exercise can be something you actually do as a hobby. For me, working out with my Billy Blanks Tae Bo Boot Camp DVD gives me an incredible workout and leaves me feeling good. I also pay attention to what I eat, incorporating more healthy dietary habits into my diet. For some it could be dancing, walking or jogging, playing sports, swimming, riding a bike, skating, and a host of other things. Being physical with your significant other is a good form of exercise too and I'm sure that's something most people won't mind doing.

Any activity that speeds your heart rate and works your muscles can be a workout for you. When you go shopping, don't always park in the spot closest to the door. Park a ways from the door and walk. Walking is great exercise but many of us are getting lazy when it comes to walking long distances. Let's not take our legs for granted. If you're the party type, spend more time dancing than you do sitting around sipping drinks.

Good nutrition and physical activity breaks such strongholds as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and overall unhealthy lifestyles. When you're staying physically fit, you're strengthening your bones and muscles, you're eliminating stress, becoming more productive, and at the same time, improving your figure. Rather than dwelling on the things we see wrong with our temples, lets look at the things that we see right. You don't have to go for the perfect figure, sculpted abs look. Just work with what you have and live a lifestyle that is healthy for you. Your temple needs a solid foundation in order to stand strong and you lay the groundwork for that foundation by practicing good nutrition and physical fitness.
