They cannot leave, you see
They have become a part of us
A part of you and me
They stay right where we can feel their love
Our hearts are their new home
They are there just to comfort us
When we think we are alone
True, we may not see them there
Where no cat scan or X-ray can record
But the are there just the same
And they lead us there by some
green and grassy path
They are there when we most need them
They are there when our mood requires
They are there when we look up to heaven
They are there when we ponder the stars
Sometimes they show us a butterfly
Sometimes a feather floats by
Sometimes a leaf that crosses our view
Sometimes when we feel like a good cry.
But we know our companions
They never leave us!
