Our Day, Ouch!

Hard Work!

Dina Montgomery
Yesterday, Patrick and I decided to do a little work outside in our backyard. The people that lived here before us didn't take very good care of the house or the outside. The backyard is full of rock, which I don't like at all, neither does my guy Patrick. Patrick had the day off from work and we were deciding what we could possibly do. We didn't really feel like doing too much, mostly just hang out with each other and relax. Well, that didn't turn out to what we actually did.

It all started with Patrick searching on the Internet for wheelbarrows. Checking the prices out so he could decide what type he wanted. Then he saw the perfect kind and the price was right. He was saying that he wanted to get a wheelbarrow to get some of the rock out of the backyard.

Hey, I have a great idea! Why don't we do that today, I said. We can go down to Home Depot and get that wheelbarrow you want and some shovels and we can get started on removing some of that rock. That sounded great to Patrick. We still get to spend time together and we can get some work done also. I love doing stuff like that with him. Nothing is better than hard work with your man.

So we got what we needed at Home Depot and headed home to get started. Patrick bought the wheelbarrow unassembled. So that took about an hour to get that all set up (I won't comment further about that, ahem). Then we stood there for awhile gabbing with our neighbor and that took up some time. So we got to the backyard a little later that what we wanted, but I wouldn't have changed a thing. Anytime we talk with our neighbor, we see it as time well spent. She is a sweet lady, always has a smile on her face and always kind.

So we finally make our way to the backyard to get busy. We start shoveling the rock, and shoveling, and shoveling. Wow, this is some hard work. Before we knew it, we had sweat dripping off our noses and our backs were screaming. We already spent almost a half hour on one spot and it didn't even look like we made a dent. Patrick and I looked at each other and thought the same thing; it's going to take us awhile to get all this rock out.

Patrick made a spot in the rock to mark were we would quit for the day and we got busy. Finally we made it to the marker and we were pooped. Later that evening we were both popping aspirin like they were tic tacs. And let me tell you, we are both are feeling it this morning. I think we might just call in some help to get the rest of the rock out.

At least you tried and as "they" say (who are they?) hard work never hurt anyone - ouch! Hope the project gets completed soon.
